HIST132 Expecting an A- Anonymous 12/11/2024 |
Professor Bell has excellent lectures that will keep you super engaged. I'm an EE major so writing is not exactly what I want to do for an assignment, however the writing assignments in this class are completely doable if you like history since they have such cool stories to write about. I didn't go to many of the lectures and although my grade hasn't suffered a ton, I really wish I had went just because he really did make the lectures that interesting. Also props to the TA as I would've never expected a discussion at 9:00 am to go as smoothly as she accomplished. I quite literally cannot recommend this course enough. |

Professor Bell is one of the most engaging professors I've had at UMD. He's really chill and genuinely cares about the content of his class. I thought that this course had a fair amount of work, but considering that it's and i-series it wasn't too bad. I would recommend not skipping lecture even though attendance isn't mandatory, because most of the important information content is typically not included on the slides. Also, if you pay attention in lecture and have detailed notes the midterm, final, and essays shouldn't be too challenging. If you do have trouble the TA's for the class are amazing and are more than willing to help with the essays. The TA's also made discussion really engaging and easy to get an A for the participation credit. I think in order to be successful in this class attending lecture/discussion, starting the essays in advance, and doing the readings for discussion are very important. This might seem like a lot of work, but it makes your life so much easier when preparing for the essays and exams. |

I agree with many of the reviews here. Professor Bell is an amazing lecturer and his classes were very engaging. Depending on if you love history/politics, this class may be good for you! However, for a 100-level intro course, there is a lot of content and work to cover for this class. There are quite a few lengthy weekly readings that also need to be deciphered out of old English, and two papers to write (~7 pages)! In addition to that, participation is integral to your grade as well. However, if you do put in effort in this class, the outcomes are very rewarding! Professor Bell is hilarious and kind and great to have! |

An engaging professor!! One of my favorites. Just expect to be writing some hefty papers for an intro level course. |
