This is the best class I have taken at UMD so far. The information itself is extremely interesting and he makes it really easy to grasp. There are readings that you need to do before every class because there are 1-2 quizzes a week (usually 1) but they are very very easy. He even let us have a group discussion in replace of taking the quiz and as long as you were in class, you got a 100. He does weekly participation so just show up to class every day and raise your hand once a week and that is an easy 100 for participation as well. If you can't go to class just email him and you don't even really need to give an elaborate reason why (excused absence or unexcused) and he won't deduct it from participation (he will if you don't let him know before class). You can also raise your participation grade by going to office hours. There is 1 midterm and a final but if you had an A (94+) by the time of the midterm, you were exempt from taking it. Every quiz is open note, the midterm is open note, and the final is open note, they just need to be physical notes not electronic. You can tell he truly loves what he teaches and his students to succeed so this is genuinely one of the best classes I have ever taken. Take this if you cannnn!!!! |

GOAT. A very informative class that goes beyond basic high school history, and Dr. Horne is very fair to students. Yes, there is reading every night and typically 1-2 quizzes every week but the work is incredibly easy once you recognize what you need to focus on to get a 10/10. Just make sure you speak at least once a class for an easy 100 in participation. My only gripe is that this course isn't offered every semester for all students to enjoy. |

AMAZING TEACHER! I love the teaching style and music he plays during class. Very lenient as well and is willing to take time to get to know his class. This was my favorite class of the semester, and I think he made it that. Discussion heavy class so please get comfortable with speaking to other students and sharing thoughts aloud in class. Thank you, Professor Horne, for being an amazing teacher. |
