Special Topics in History; Public History
Introduces students to the modes and skills historians deploy in order to foster historical understanding and thinking beyond publication and the classroom. Students will analyze examples of public history and create a proposal for a public history project that builds on their own scholarly work. This class will use the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History as a laboratory and class sessions will be held there. On several occasions, students will be required to experience the museum outside of class hours.
