AMAZING professor. Easily one of my favorite classes/professors I have ever taken! You can tell how much he cares about both the course and his students. Like some of the other reviewers said, this class is a contract grading class and you have to meet certain criteria to receive an A. This class is more focused on writing and it can feel like a lot at times but Dr. Stewart is so gracious and understanding. The class is two and a half hours long but the time honestly flies by + we usually get a 10-15 minute break every class. The class is also very very interesting and I gained a lot of new knowledge about the US prison system. Additionally, we got to tour the Maryland Women's Correctional Institute and it was hands down one of the coolest/most intriguing experiences I have ever had. If you're debating taking this class you should take it!! I loved Dr. Stewart's teaching style and how personable he is to the point where I might enroll in one of his Crim. classes in the future!! 10/10 class & professor! |

Wonderful professor, he listens to our suggestions, very lenient with extensions, and teaches like a real person, not a lecturer. I would strongly suggest to take this professor for any course. |

He's so chill and nice. Other review explained the contract grading system that he employed and it basically made the class a free A. Also, I played games on my laptop like all the time and never participated in the discussion during the 3 hour classes and he never called me out once even though he probably should have. So he's a goat for that |

Wonderful professor, and he is a super great guy. For this course, he sets up a "contract grading system" where you basically sign-up for whatever letter final letter grade you want to receive in this class, and you will be given a set of criteria for you to complete throughout the semester in order to receive that letter grade. There is a weekly reading, and for the A contract grade, you need to do about 10 Perusall annotations (which are just 6 annotations on the readings per week), 8 discussion questions (which is quite literally just a simple one-sentence question sparking conversation during in-class discussions), and 6 reading memos (simple and small 1-2 page reflection on the selected readings). That's literally it and all for an A. No exams and no final. I got all my work done over the first half of the semester, so I barely did any work for this course in the second half. The class is very interesting and Professor Stewart sets it up in a way where you want to read to learn as opposed to reading to get a grade. Overall, super great guy and fantastic course. Highly recommend. |

He is so great. This class was 3 hours, but Professor Stewart would always bring energy to the classroom and give us a break in the middle of class. Overall easy and straightforward class and he really cares about our wellbeing. |
