Woodie Kessel HNUH328T Expecting an A Anonymous 12/18/2024	He was a really great professor! However, I frequently found myself lost in the class because he doesn't go in a linear fashion. The class itself is like a giant mind map and occasionally it would make sense and for some parts I would just be along for the ride. It's okay to feel lost in the class. Three hours is a long time and some days it will feel like it, but by the end of the semester, I couldn't believe that it was over. He is very knowledgeable and has some very valuable insights. He urges you to think past what you would think and challenged a lot of fundamental thoughts I had. He also has a lot of outside connections that he brings to class and made me passionate about using my degree for better public health. The assignments were straightforward and my TAs were really helpful with helping with formatting and submissions. They also have experience in the class and internships so use them for good! The final exam was also really easy and take-home and due before the last class. I've never been stressed about this class. For those who want to know the more overall Federal Fellows experience, I believe it is really worth it if you are considering any service oriented field, even if it is not directly policy or government related. Dr. Kessel has a lot of interesting connections to make with every field of study and has one of the most interesting backgrounds I've ever seen. The Federal Fellows office is really helpful with anything related to the program and their staff is very knowledgeable and have a lot of experience with getting their students internships. That being said, please plan ahead. Several of the partner internships require an average of 15-20 hours of work a week and while you can get academic credit for it, please plan ahead. They only have a few requirements such as a resume workshop, cover letter submission, mandatory kickoff and one event check-in for the fall semester.
Samuel Kessel HNUH328T Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/22/2022	Dr. Kessel is one of the most engaging professors I have had. As a former Assistant Surgeon General, he has great insight into public policy. Although the seminar is a bit unconventional, it was one of the only classes where I found myself interested at all times and the assignments useful.
