Seminar in Israel Studies; Populism and Social Media: A Comparative Approach

Crosslisted with COMM498E. Credit granted for COMM498E or ISRL448C The new media ecosystem has had a major impact on the emergence of populist movements, and not only in advanced democracies. Populist leaders are using social media to achieve power and to manipulate public opinion once they hold it. The course will look at the world-wide phenomenon of populism and populist leaders, with an emphasis on the Israeli case of Prime Minister Netanyahu's move from Tele-populism to Digital populism.
