Special Topics in Journalism; Covering Social Justice

The objective of this class is to expose students to the best journalistic practices in covering race and social justice issues. Students will explore how social justice is covered in the media through readings, discussions, guest lectures and research assignments to help students understand the history and background of social justice and how reporters cover these issues. Students will develop critical analytical skills through their research and will write a reported essay about a national or international social justice issue impacting society. This course is taught by an award-winning journalist who continues to cover social issues.
