Ross Miller KNES300 Expecting an A Anonymous 01/24/2024	Dr. Miller's class (including the lab) is very straightforward, and not too difficult. His lectures are all recorded and very easy to understand and he's very good at explaining concepts. As long as you watch his videos/go to lecture and lab and take notes you'll get an A.
Ross Miller KNES300 Expecting an A Anonymous 01/14/2024	Dr. Miller is pretty cool, I liked him. He gives a lot of visual examples, whether that be videos, graphs, or using his body to demonstrate- which is helpful. He explains everything well and is always willing to meet up to explain concepts and why an answer on an exam or quiz was correct or incorrect. He's pretty blunt but does want students to succeed. He releases a practice exam before each test, make sure you take them! The 4 exams can be challenging. Have to study hard for the class if you want an A. He has recorded lectures (from the pandemic) you can watch & upload the slides, which was great! Slight stumble toward the end of the semester over whether one question was fair to ask on the third exam (said a future lecture's content wasn't supposed to be used, but it was… in my & others’ opinion). However, at the end of the day, he was fair by crossing that question off so it wasn't counted toward our grade. That's why the other reviewer said he got mad, was after that incident as he blamed it on people not being in class. But my friend went to every single lecture and answered that question completely wrong whereas I, who missed some, answered it correctly. So idk Lecture21-gate could be argued about forever. Note that he’ll possibly throw in questions where the answer may be “none of the answer choices,” which tripped me up so don’t let that happen to you, read everything carefully. Personally, I found not listening to or taking his notes/side comments next to certain questions for the best. They ended up making me overthink and change my gut-instinct answer, causing me to get the question wrong. The comments could be helpful if you have a different mindset of thinking than me but just take them with a grain of salt until you see for yourself what's best for you. Lab isn’t too bad as long as you have a good group. There are 6 reports due roughly every other week but sometimes up to 3 wks cause no reports are due on weeks with an exam. If Sam is your TA you are in great hands! To wrap up- take good notes, study hard, ask questions, and you’ll be just fine!
Ross Miller KNES300 Expecting a B Anonymous 12/20/2023	Class is pretty straightforward, lectures are on his YouTube channel, tests and quizzes are all online wherever you want to take them, and lab reports seemed to be graded pretty leniently. I have no interest in anything physics related, so I found the course to be pretty boring, but, I learned a lot. The physics and math aspect is not difficult at all, it just depends on what you are interested in learning. He sent an email about people not coming to class after saying "technically attendance isn't mandatory which is why the lectures are online." You're better off just showing up anyways so you don't get behind. Definitely recommend, though, super nice guy!
Ross Miller KNES300 Expecting an A Anonymous 11/27/2023	Fairly easy class, but the material is pretty dry. Dr. Miller can be confusing with expectations. His syllabus said the lectures could be watched online but then he got upset with our class for not coming in person. Just make sure you know the expectations.
Hyuk Oh KNES300 Expecting an A- Anonymous 05/17/2023	Dr. Oh is quite honestly one of the worst professors I've ever had at my time here at UMD. He has an incredibly thick accent, making him impossible to understand. I went to lecture the first day and understood 1 out of every 10 words he would say. I never went to another lecture after that because I was learning more just from reviewing the lecture slides on my own time than torturing myself by sitting through 50 minutes of absolute gibberish. While his quizzes and exams are open note, the questions are very mundane and the notes I took from the lecture slides helped probably 50% of the time. On the first exam he warned us there was going to be a question that we needed to know how to do, yet refused to teach us how to solve the problem, and naturally not a single person in the class got the question correct. The lab for this class was actually quite fun, but is heavily outweighed by the terrible teaching. If Dr. Oh is your only option for this course, I implore you to wait a semester until you can get someone else. Do not under any circumstances put yourself through what I had to go through. This is your only warning. Heed it. Please.
Hyuk Oh KNES300 Expecting a B Anonymous 04/24/2023	You will never be able to understand what this man says because his accent is so horrible so it is pointless to go to his lectures. Even though all the exams are open note, they are impossible to do well on because his lecture slides are extremely vague and mundane and so are his exam questions. I would recommend waiting a semester if this man is your only option because the professor for this class rotates. I have friends that took it with the other professor in earlier semesters who all got As with no complaints.
Ross Miller KNES300 Expecting an A IfCourseEvalsWereHones 12/18/2022	Straightforward class. Dr. Miller is a nice, realistic, and articulate professor. Explains concepts very well, the exams are fair and he provides lots of practice tests to prepare you. When I took the class, Dr. Miller gave you the option to either take exams online or in person. Material isn't too difficult. There are physics and math involved, but it's very light because Dr. Miller rather emphasize the theoretical concepts and tests you on simple trig instead. The lab portion was fine. A report was due every other week, but you get to work on it with group members and grading was pretty lenient.
