Would probably give a 4.5 if possible. The class is very interesting. For the project, you have to select a country and explain why it is not rich and provide up to three policy recommendations given those reasons. He sometimes asks very boring or limited questions in lecture, and I wish he would have incorporated more in depth examples during lectures. He is truly helpful and a very insightful professor. His lectures (and him generally) are a bit bias toward the right and very in favor of capitalism. He is a fair grader, but somewhat refuses to give 100s unless you go above and beyond (like way above). For example, you need to interview an expert in the field/country you chose and only the people who interviewed more than one person got 100. There are two exams which are easy if you pay attention in class and skim the readings, and two papers which are both long (however, you can use the interim paper as a rough draft for the final which does help with the workload). Overall, a relatively interesting and fair class and professor. The class definitely challenged me to think deeply. Like other reviews have mentioned the easiest way to secure an A is to be a regular in office hours (I also think that Dr. Moller is much more enjoyable during office hours rather than in lectures). On an opinion note, I personally very heavily disagreed with his opinions and beliefs on colonialism and aid. He did not care that I disagreed and respected me as an individual for having differing opinions, however, during lectures would often refer to more left leaning people as whiny which I didn’t appreciate. |

An absolutely amazing professor. He was knowledgeable and his lectures were really interesting, but most importantly he was the most understanding professor I have ever had. He was really kind and flexible, especially about assignment deadlines, and even built in some time in the syllabus for review days (or just having a class off once in a while to reduce stress). Overall, I would highly recommend taking a class with him if you get a chance. |
