Curtis Valentine PLCY288F Expecting a W Anonymous 04/24/2025	Professor Valentine is definitely interested in the content of the class and makes lectures engaging. However, I would recommend you take ANY other class than this one. It is impossible to study for exams. He doesn't post slides, or anything on Canvas to help you study. You have to rely on your notes, which are impossible to take in class because 1) he constantly stands in front of the board or 2) he switches slides too fast. He also loves to cold call people, and if you say something maybe he doesn't agree with, you will know-and so will the whole class. When the class did terrible on the midterm, he asked the whole class what they did to study and got mad that none of us formed study groups or took pictures of the slides in class. I don't know about you, but I have never had to take pictures of every single slide in class or had to form a study group for a policy class. Also, there were a total of 3 assignments all semester, so your grade really relies on the impossible exams. I am now switching my major out of Public Policy. Do not take this class.

He did have a few oddly timed due dates for assignments but other than that I truly enjoyed the class and learned a lot from it. One of my favorite policy classes so far.
Curtis Valentine PLCY288F Expecting an A- Anonymous 07/11/2023	I have never written a review for a professor before nor do I check these websites before taking a class, but I needed to write one about Professor Valentine. Coming into his class, I wanted to drop my major (Public Policy) and switch to business. After taking his class, he completely changed my perspective on education policy and made me remember why I wanted to pursue a degree in Public Policy. He is the best professor I have ever had at my three years at UMD. I can not stress enough how much I enjoyed his class. You will not regret taking his class. I could listen to this man talk about paint drying for 3 hours and he would make it interesting. He makes you question everything you believe and I left that class a better and more well-rounded student and person. In terms of work-load, he is really lenient and as long as you turn something in with some sort of effort and thought he will give you an A. In conclusion... TAKE HIS CLASS
