Take. He is a very gentle man and explains topics well. The assignments weren't hard either. Tomato plant died unfortunately due to cold weather but was still fun! |

Overall, the class was an easy, interesting gened. The main parts of the grade are two essays, a group project, the tomato plant project (my favorite part of the course), and short writing assignments at the end of each class period used as a participation grade. Essay grading is very lenient. Dr. Xiao is a solid lecturer who cares a lot about his work. As another commenter mentioned, he does have a bit of an accent, but I was fully used to it by the second lecture and it didn’t bother me at all. This semester, he co-taught with James Culver. |

Thought this was an easy class but did require attendance to every lecture and discussion for the points. The essay exams were not difficult and the group project wasn't hard either. |

Took this class for the GenEd, and it was fine. Super easy to get an A if you show up and do the 2 essays and final project. Can be hard for some to understand Dr. Xiao's accent, but it isn't a problem for most, especially because lecture material is never tested. Overall good professor and course. |

Great class. Lectures are easy to follow, and no tests or exams. 2 essays and a group project are the majority of your grade. Discussion sections are graded on participation. Pretty interesting, broad class about Food Security. |
