This course focuses mainly on reviewing and reflecting on research literature spanning many different topics within Clinical Psychology. Andy will lecture about the topic, and then take time for the class to reflect, comment, and ask questions about the content. This class made me so much more comfortable with reading and analyzing research literature, and made me much more aware about how we might benefit from changes to the current research and publication processes in place. If you have interest in going into Clinical Psychology in any capacity, and specifically research, I would highly recommend taking this course. Course Details: It is a very straightforward course, and as long as you read the assigned papers and complete the assignments you will almost certainly receive an A. Each week there will be a lecture reading, discussion reading, and an optional reading before the Friday class. Based on these readings there are 10 reaction papers (2 pages double-spaced), of which you only have to complete 6. In addition, there is a group project that is presented at the end of the semester. |

I'm not sure if this is how Dr. Eddington typically teaches but her class was one of the worst experiences I have had at this university. Not because the class was hard but because she did not seem to care at all. The first grade we had was the midterm. Other than that, we wrote a paper and had the final exam. On top of that, all she taught was the textbook. We only had class on Tuesdays and she would take 30 minutes discussing the chapter we read (the slides were screenshots of the textbook) and then we would leave. I feel like I ultimately did not learn as much as I could have when taking this class. If you have to have her as a professor for PSYC436, just read the textbook and choose a different 400-level. |

One of the most considerate professors I’ve had at UMD. Andy sets up his class for success. You choose which weeks you want to complete a short 2 page reaction paper for, which are the bulk of your grade. Class focuses more on developments in clinical psychology and how to expand the field rather than current clinical practice, which was not what I was expecting but still interesting. He also focuses more on children and adolescent mental health, which does give a unique perspective. Exams are fair and he gives a very helpful lecture beforehand that goes over all the topics that will be on the exam. Andy also has good advice for graduate school and career planning, and great knowledge of the research psychology field. Basically, if you try a little in this class you will get an A, but engaging in class will give you a better perspective on the field. Would definitely recommend to people interested in clinical psychology, research into clinical psychology, or if you just need to fill a credit. |

The class only has 4 homework assignments and 2 exams, so you really cannot mess up on anything. Overall, the material was interesting and the exams weren't too bad as long as you studied the PowerPoint slides. |

Easy class, great professor! If you study the slides, you will do well on the exams. The projects are informative and fun. Byrne connects all the lessons to real life events and tells you about all of her experiences. |
