Expecting an A

This review is for Professor Marianna Landa. She is a very approachable, knowledgeable, and understanding professor. It is clear that she knows the material very well, and she communicates it very clearly to her students. In addition, she helps to incorporate different aspects of the Russian culture into her class, which makes the class more interesting. She assigns homework everyday, and expects students to do it. She genuinely wants to see students succeed, and thus will give you an almost guaranteed A if you put effort into the course.

This review is for Marianna Landa, the Russian professor. I have very few positive things to say about her, but I will start with them. She is really nice. It goes without saying that if you are actually a native Russian speaker this class will be an automatic A. Now for the bad. So much work. She assigns these annoying homework assignments that are absolutely trivial if you are a native speaker, but still take forever to do, and for those who are not native speakers they are also difficult. The most annoying thing she does is she talks to her students like we are five years old. She spent 10 minutes one lecture telling us how to use notecards to study: "If you remember a word, put the notecard aside. If you don't remember a word, put the notecard in the back of your pile so that you get to see it again". It's incredibly annoying and insulting. My recommendation: If you are a native speaker, this is an easy A, but its not a class you can skip, because homework is assigned every lecture. Expect to want to shoot yourself 2 weeks into classes. If you are not a native speaker, I can't guarantee that your Russian will improve. She doesn't lecture very clearly, although she really tries. Expect a lot of work.
