Lots of great reviews for Melissa Landa, but take it from someone she took a distinct disliking to.. beware if she does dislike you. She becomes unapproachable and impossible to contact regarding any assignment confusion. Leave it to her to spread the word to your supervisors and coordinators that she had a personal problem with you. I've never encountered a more unprofessional professor in my 4 years at the University. |

Very laid back course with a kind and nice professor. If you do all the assignments and work, you will get a 100% grade no joke. She even gives bonus assignments if you really need it which I highly doubt. While this is one of the easier classes at UMD, it is also one of the most enlightening. Since there isn't a lot of work involved, you get to pay attention to the course material and actually enjoy learning about it. There are no tests but rather short answer quizes, a media presentation you have to make, and a book review project. All are easy manageable. She does take attendance and participation grade so don't think you can skip lecture. Watched a lot of movies as well. The only "bad" thing I would say is that we got very delayed in the schedule and you could sense that there was a lack of organization in terms of scheduling. But I did learn an awful lot and I think that's what matters the most. |

She is great! I absolutely love her! I have never written a review on ourumd before but felt obligated to give her one because she is very deserving! She is so understanding of your every need and hip and fun. If you can, take this class with her. It is super easy to get an A (if not finish the class with a 100%) SHES THE BEST! |

Apparently there are two M. Landas, so this one is for MELISSA LANDA (EDCI443). Easy class. Great way to acquire materials to use in your own classroom in the future. Dr. Landa is very approachable and nice, but her class is just very dull. Often found myself doing other work in the class. There are a few projects throughout the year. Straightforward and easy, but BEWARE.. I put considerable effort into these projects and then realized they were only worth 5-10 points. Approximately 6 quizzes on readings. In-class final exam, NOT during finals week. Wish the class wasn't so dull! She's a great person. |

This review is for Professor Marianna Landa. She is a very approachable, knowledgeable, and understanding professor. It is clear that she knows the material very well, and she communicates it very clearly to her students. In addition, she helps to incorporate different aspects of the Russian culture into her class, which makes the class more interesting. She assigns homework everyday, and expects students to do it. She genuinely wants to see students succeed, and thus will give you an almost guaranteed A if you put effort into the course. |

This review is for Marianna Landa, the Russian professor. I have very few positive things to say about her, but I will start with them. She is really nice. It goes without saying that if you are actually a native Russian speaker this class will be an automatic A. Now for the bad. So much work. She assigns these annoying homework assignments that are absolutely trivial if you are a native speaker, but still take forever to do, and for those who are not native speakers they are also difficult. The most annoying thing she does is she talks to her students like we are five years old. She spent 10 minutes one lecture telling us how to use notecards to study: "If you remember a word, put the notecard aside. If you don't remember a word, put the notecard in the back of your pile so that you get to see it again". It's incredibly annoying and insulting. My recommendation: If you are a native speaker, this is an easy A, but its not a class you can skip, because homework is assigned every lecture. Expect to want to shoot yourself 2 weeks into classes. If you are not a native speaker, I can't guarantee that your Russian will improve. She doesn't lecture very clearly, although she really tries. Expect a lot of work. |

BEWARE!! There are two different people that are M. Landa... this one sounds good but Marianna Landa (who also teaches russ classes) is not even close to good or easy... she likes it her way or tells you to go to the writing center... you can do all the reading but you may still get a B or even a C in the class..... be prepared |

Dr. Landa is so much fun and so interesting. I never wanted to miss her class and I loved coming every day. She kept class interesting with lots of talking and activities. We were always laughing and discussing and enjoying ourselves. The topic (Children's Literature) can be so much fun with a great teacher, and she truly made us appreciate and understand literature for kids. I would have never thought I could learn so much about kids' books, but I feel like an expert at choosing quality literature now. The readings are fun, the class is so much fun and very low key, and she is a joy as a teacher. I definitely recommend her! |
