Special Topics in Film Studies I; The Road Movie
The road movie, defined by W. Everett as "a fluid and open-ended genre which uses the narrative trajectory of road as an extended metaphor of of quest and discovery through which to approach fundamental concepts of reality, should enlighten us about important modern and contemporary issues such as self-discovery, displacement, exile, border-crossing, and the interfaces between the national and supra-national identities. We will screen films from Argentina, Australia, Bhutan, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea Mexico, Poland, Russia, UK, US, and other countries, as well as several transnational co-productions We will study some of the most well-known road movies in conjunction with critical readings.
