TDPS358L

Special Topics in Intermediate Performing Arts; Devising Hamlet - Physical Theatre

Students must pay a $25 lab fee. Audition required. This course is based on the physical theatre techniques originally developed by Jacques Lecoq. There will be an emphasis on foundational exercises that involve strength, flexibility and endurance, as well as coordinating exaggerated physical gestures with vocal expression. All of the foundational techniques will then be applied to creating exaggerated physical characters. There will also be an emphasis on ensemble creation and what Lecoq calls le jeu thtral. This course is a requirement for people interested in auditioning for the 2019 production of Hamlet, which will be an adaptation of Shakespeares play, and involve extensive physical engagement. Auditions for the course are open to everyone. Email Leslie Felbain at lfelbain@umd.edu with questions.
