The class is heavily discussion-based, so there are a lot of class and group discussions. The class itself is pretty chill, there are some readings each week and larger projects every 2 weeks or so. The class is easy to do well in, although it's very awkward when no one participates in the discussions because no one did the readings. The projects aren't bad as she usually gives you enough time to work on them and usually lets you choose what you want to make them on, so you get a lot of creative liberty. The final is also just a more in-depth version of one of your smaller projects, so there are no exams to worry about. Professor Hageman is also really knowledgeable, and she's very understanding, so if you're ever having issues with the class just talk to her. The class itself is not that hard, and if you're interested in these topics, then you can definitely get a lot out of the class. The only issue I had was that the class was a bit disorganized, and she sometimes didn't post assignments or readings until the night before, but it wasn't a huge issue that would impact my grade or anything.

Professor Mosley is nice, and it was great having a Black queer professor. However, the course was very vague, and they didn't consider other viewpoints. We mostly focused on the Black and queer experience, which felt limiting. The workload was too heavy for a 200-level class, and you need prior knowledge to do well.

Dr. Mosley is a great guy, truly. He is very knowledgeable, and class discussions he holds are very enriching and nice. His debates are also a lot of fun!! He also has some great stories to share and the media and material we go through is so well-picked and applicable. However, is a bit of stickler for participation, and there seems to be a bit of an unnecessary attitude at times. The readings he assigns can be incredible hard to understand and academic jargon-y, which make it difficult to participate in class if you don't really know what the readings were saying to begin with. If you are on the shier side too, this might also be challenging for you. Participation is also completely subjective on his part, and you can still try to say things, but he is ultimately the judge of if it really counts as participation. He can be very fun in class and his assignments are interesting, but it can definitely be stressful (especially with your grade) to do well. For a 200 level, elective, introductory class, the readings are far too advanced (coming from someone who is in a liberal arts/social sciences degree and does a lottt of reading), and the participation element of class is frankly taken far too seriously. I get wanting students to engage in discussion, but there will naturally be a few that don't say as much, for lots of different reasons. Having it deeply impact your overall grade is ridiculous. I had a great time in this class overall, but these shortcomings are definitely major points of improvement that should be worked on.

He isn't a bad professor, just not the best. He makes sure the class/ discussion aspect of his class is fun, but his assignments are pretty misleading. The class also isn't assignment heavy and is out of 100 which means every assignment counts. Another thing is attendance is mandatory along with contributing to the discussion which can be hard at times to contribute to because everything doesn't relate to you.

Hageman was very nice, personable and funny. I enjoyed having her as a professor. The assignments were fun and manageable. I would recommended this professor.
