JOUR320 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/13/2025 |
It depends on what you want out of this class. He may be a phenomenal writer, and he will give you a ton of edits, but he's not meant to be a professor. His class style is very unstructured, and you have to remind him about changing mistakes he makes, but he's very entertaining and will extend deadlines. I was still stressed in this class despite what other people have said, but the flexibility helped. |

Class is actually an adventure. He's one of the most unique people in the entire state of Maryland. He doesn't necessarily teach anything but he's without a doubt the easiest JOUR320 professor. Very lenient with deadlines for assignments. He's also banned from Canada btw. |

It was an easy class, but we learned absolutely nothing. If you have a tough workload or other ways to develop your journalism skills, take this class. If you have the time, I highly recommend taking another professor who will teach you something. |

Fantastic professor, connected over sports and had a great time in his class. Super appreciative and considerate of story deadlines. My goat, 1 of 1 |

Great guy, not made for teaching. Easiest A+ of all-time in a class that is supposed to be the hardest at Merrill. Convicted felon btw |

If you want a free A I don't hold anything against you, but I strongly advise against taking Jamaal. It was his first time teaching at Maryland and it was glaringly obvious. JOUR320 is supposed to be the weed out class where you learn about the journalism industry and whether or not you actually belong. We learned nothing, he constantly extended deadlines taking away the whole point of the course which is to work against the clock on a tight schedule and he often arrived late to lecture slots, (usually only 10 minutes max, but still a lack of professionalism). Like I said, if you want the easy A to check the box for 320 go ahead, but if you want to actually be prepared for your future journalism classes at UMD take anyone else. |
