Take a different professor if you can. She is not the absolute worst but at times it can feel like it. She is a bit of a harsh grader for a 101 class which can be a little stressful especially since you wait pretty long to get grades back. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! The kids who went to office hours were the ones who got the best grades on the assignments. She values effort and participation in and out of class so I would try your best to get to know her because in a subjective class it's best to have the professor on your side. As many other people mentioned, she can be unorganized. My class had assignments graded where we got zeroes because she forgot that she told us not to do them and I lost points on assignments for not doing small things that were never mentioned. She also expects a lot from her students academically when most kids are in this class because they need to work on their academic writing abilities, so it's a bit ironic. She also assigned like 2 or 3 big assignments during finals week which weren't that hard but veryyy annoying.

The worst professor ever. I asked her for an extension on an assignment, and she allowed me to turn it in late, but she didn’t remember that she had given me the extension. She took 50% off, and even though I kept emailing her to remind her that she had approved the extension, she never addressed the issue. She’s the worst professor I’ve ever had. Don’t take her if you don’t want to be miserable.

While the rubrics and instructions for the assignments can be confusing, and she isn’t great at answering questions, the class isn’t bad. Professor Adeyemi is a very nice person, super impressive, and has a lot of knowledge to share, and personally I thought her grading was fair.

Overall very friendly and kind teacher, I was between 4-5 stars. The class (ENGL101) is definitely a lot of work and assignments can be time consuming, but if you show up to lectures and put in some effort you'll be good. She cares about her students and actually wants to engage with you so if you give that back, she'll appreciate it. she learns everyone's name quick and marks if you are absent from class but idk if that actually effects your grade in any way. She also loves participation so if you raise your hand during class/ literally just show her you're listening, you'll have a good relationship. The in-person classes could be slow sometimes, but weren't too bad. There's a decent amount of group discussion/ peer review during class and she occasionally gives you time to work on assignments during the lecture which is nice. There are weekly freewrites (in class) & exit tickets for participation points... MAKE SURE TO DO THESE super easy points and not worth the dent in your grade if you don't. She does 1 on 1 conferences mid-semester to check-in and is good about responding to email. Her office hours are online 1 on 1 as well if you ever want to review work with her. Canvas was a little hard to follow at times as deadlines would occasionally change or assignments would be listed twice but she always clarified in class when something was different, just dont be afraid to ask if you're confused abt something, she's pretty understanding. I took this class first semester and thought it really helped improve my writing. Would recommend if you're willing to try and don't despise English - assignments are the same for ENGL101 regardless of who ur professor is.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!! I wish I could give her 0 stars. I really wish I could. Her expectations are EXTREMELY unclear, and grading is completely subjective. You never know what will earn an A versus a B, even with rubrics. Nothing is graded until finals week, so you have NO idea where you stand until the last minute. I had a 96% in the class yesterday, and then woke up to see my grade changed at 1:00 a.m. to a 90%. I immediately emailed her explaining my concern, and five hours later, she responded, saying nothing could be done because the grades were already in the gradebook. Her explanation relied on vague, unstated expectations (like wanting to see certain artifacts in my ePortfolio that were never clearly required) despite the course emphasizing revision, reflection, and continuity across assignments. Office hours are implied to be necessary to understand expectations, but for students with demanding schedules, that is impossible. Many office hours conflicted with other classes, and the questions asked in class did not clarify what she wanted. Seriously, do not take this professor. This is your final warning. Check reviews on PlanetTerp before signing up, because I made the mistake of not doing so, and it completely ruined my semester.

Let me start with the pros: Mrs. Adeyemi is a nice lady and if you email her about being sick and needing to miss class, she is usually kind and will excuse your absence. Her class discussions are a little boring but not hard to keep up with, and sometimes she does extra credit activities which are random class games. However, she has no idea how to answer simple questions and would change assignments the day it was due saying "that's not what she wanted us to do”. Mind you she makes her entire semester schedule for assignments over the summer then forgets what she assigns but doesn't get rid of the assignments that she doesn't actually want us doing. While I'm doing fine in the class, she made this easy English GenEd one of my most stressful classes. The only way to do well in this class is participating a lot in class and going to office hours for any questions.

She is just a really tough grader for no reason. Do not take this class if you expected an A like me, because she gives out Bs on almost every essay, no matter how much effort you put in, and her feedback is usually unhelpful.

If you don’t want to live a miserable life, save yourself and do not take her. She is the worst professor I’ve ever had. She grades all your assignments during finals, when you won’t have a chance to apply her feedback, and it just adds to your stress while you’re trying to study for other classes. She doesn’t like to be proven wrong and often disregards students’ questions. Trust me, you do not want to take her class.

Worst professor ever!!! Her classes were extremely disorganized, and I wouldn’t say we learned anything related to English writing. She always talked about random things that were not related to the course. She graded all our assignments during the last three days of the semester. I don’t know why she took off so many points when she could not teach at all. One thing I learned from her class is to always look up the professor beforehand. I don’t know why I didn’t think to do that first. If you are reading this, do yourself a favor and do not register for her class, even if you have to take the course another semester. This professor does not know what she’s doing.

She thinks she's always right and you can't change her mind. Has repeatedly told me exactly what to title my essays like its up to her. Gave me a 66 on a essay I put a lot of effort into and went to the writing center twice for and when she gave me feedback it gave me nothing to work with and when I went to ask if i can rewrite it she said I could and if I fixed what she gave me feedback on I would be around a B, I fixed said feedback and she said she didn't notice any major changes and didn't change my grade. She always makes her assignment layouts so confusing too. NEVER think about taking her. If i could give her a zero I would.

This professor is the worst professor I have ever had at this or any prior institution. Like other people are saying, the class content was generally easy and straight-forward, but she was completely disorganized and she tended to add weirdly vague and convoluted language to the assignments which made them challenging to understand or complete. On top of this, she was very condescending when VARIOUS students raised very valid concerned over the course of the semester, and was even condescending over email, attacking the professionalism of my approach when I was simply asking a question in what I believed was a very pleasantly, professionally written email. She was weird about attendance, counting people absent when they were actually in class and she just skipped marking them, then refusing to go back and remedy this, demanding they provide proof of attendance. She didn't release any grades until the very end of the semester, which lead to my getting a B+ when my gradebook said A+ the entire semester. I felt that much of what she said in class was very "therapy speak" oriented without any real substance or direction, which made classes very confusing. Please do not take a course with this woman. She was so bad that this course was A YEAR ago and I a) am stilling thinking about it, and b) that I felt it was unethical to not put this out there for other people to know even though I forgot to post it after (mostly because I wanted to be done thinking about it.) I wish I could put zero stars. Please do not take her.

The class itself is easy, but she is now my arch-nemesis. If you're considering taking this class as your PW credit, I would recommend it, just not with her. I wait in longing for the semester to end so I may never have to deal with her ever again. I would suggest that you run, FLEE, not walk, as far away from her as possible, and never look or turn back. I cannot stress this enough. Don't do this to yourself; take literally any other professor. I wish I could give zero stars, but I unfortunately cannot. You have been warned.

I had Adeyemi as my first English Professor at UMD and to say the class was a bit of a nightmare is an understatement. I personally found Adeyemi to be a bit scattered brain and I never felt like she fully knew what she was doing. There was plenty of times where what she would post on ELMS, such as due dates, assignments etc, and it would conflict with what she said in class. The class was constantly confused as to when things were truthfully due which caused a lot of conflict and tension in the class, and most the time Adeyami tried to make it seem like she wasn't really at fault. I've never had a class be so silent throughout the whole semester then what I did with this class and I feel that truly shows a reflection based off of how Adeyemi taught. She pretty must discouraged most questions we had and not to mention that she assigns a LOT of homework..and they're usually pretty lengthy! I'm currently taking two English classes this semester and I still feel like the work Adeyemi assigned each week is more than what my TWO English classes assign in a single week this semester. Really the only reason as to why I'm giving her two stars is because she can be a very flexible teacher. When I had a bad accident my fall semester she was extremely lenient with me in terms of getting assignments done and gave me plenty of time to get them in. Other than that though the class was just unorganized and hectic. I really would not recommend taking Adeyemi unless you plan on making your life harder than what it needs to be. I'm sure she means well overall, but I definitely do not think being a College Professor was cut out for her.

Worst teacher I have ever had. Do not take. Discouraged questions, always had to be right no matter what, didn't help you succeed, and took forever to grade. When asked about grading and why she was three months late, she said "I am working at 3 colleges and managing a startup so you are going to have to be patient". But when she decided to move our 5 page essay deadline up to that current day and we questioned her, she simply told us " this is college guys get used to it" Do not take.

Hands down the worst professor I have had at UMD- I have never felt more miserable in a class and I never imagined an easy gen ed could go so poorly. Adeyemi taught the writing class for health professions but she had no background in anything health-related so she never understood students' topics correctly and was incredibly reductive while discussing them. She also has a huge chip on her shoulder and responds aggressively to students who point out her (frequent) mistakes or disagree with her on any topic. She never admits to not knowing something or making a mistake, and she frequently frames herself as the victim when students speak up for themselves in class. Adeyemi doesn't have a plan or make any of her own materials so the lectures are entirely a waste of time. She doesn't always stick to the syllabus and is very unclear and inconsistent when outlining her expectations so it feels like her requirements for each project change by the day (and often over the course of a single class). She also doesn't grade ANYTHING during the semester so you get 0 feedback and she assigns grades really harshly after the semester ends. I truly do not know how she landed this position given her qualifications. It feels like to this day, she's faking it till she makes it but at this rate I don't think she'll ever make it. If you don't believe the reviews here then you can find her even worse reviews on ratemyprofessor at her old institution (Bellevue). Overall I'd say stay far far away from any classes taught by Adeyemi-- take the class a different semester if she is your only choice because I promise you she is not worth it. You will not learn anything, you will feel frustrated while trying to figure out what she wants, and you will probably walk away with a bad grade in a course where pretty much every other student gets an A.

The class was not too difficult. However, Professor Adeyemi was a little unorganized with due dates. She was very sweet to select students, but other students noted that she was condescending. Additionally, I think the in-person classes were unproductive and could have been planned out better.

Discouraged from asking questions. I’ve never had such an unhelpful teacher. If you have questions, go to the writing center instead because she will offer no assistance and make you feel bad for having one.
