This class was challenging for a gen-ed I really didn't care about. But there was nothing unfair about it. Some parts were interesting but readings were pretty long and boring and were required if you wanted good grades on homeworks. I have no idea how I BSed my way through this class and got an A+ lol. Adler is a great lecturer and funny guy. He's a really awesome, passionate professor. It is a significant amount of writing with essay exams and long writing response homeworks. I really recommend taking a different gen-ed if you are taking this for gen-ed credits. |

Online lectures for the semester but they were fine. The class is easy but it’s all essays so subjective grading can screw you sometimes. A negative is that you need a 94 for an A. |

This class is exactly as easy as it seems to pass, but its kinda difficult to get an A. You will never actually interact with the professor as he doesn't come to campus, so your discussions will be lead by your TA. You're expected to watch 3 or so lectures a week and keep up with the reading (you don't actually have to and most people don't) The only thing you have to do weekly is read one excerpt and answer a 300 word question about it which you get a 100 for completing. You also have to go to discussion once a week and actually participate once to get a 100 in that to. Your two lowest discussions and weekly summaries get dropped, so you should have a 100 in those areas. You also have to write a paper for this class which is fairly easy and most people do well on it. My main issue with this class was the 3 exams which are short essay questions and are online. Firstly, they are always at the most inconvenient times, and if you can't make that time they only offer one extra makeup time which is usually at 8 am the next day. There is also no rubric for grading and the grading is entirely dependent on your TA, so you better make those exams count! I actually liked my TA, and as of right now, do not regret taking this gen ed. |

Had lectures online this semester but class was easy. One assignment one discussion per week. 94 is needed for an A which is garbage for a gen Ed but not a bad one to take especially if interested in Ancient Rome. |

This course was fully online so I don't know the prof, only my TA (is a very slow talker as I know from the uploaded lecture videos which were still slow when watched in 2x speed.) The course was fairly easy, but many of the articles got lengthy as the semester went on and it was hard to keep up with sometimes as they could read a multiple 30pg readings. |

Professor Adler is one of the best orators I've ever met; that is to say, he is fantastic at talking, storytelling, and keeping your focus. The entire 50 minutes of every lecture I was unwaveringly engaged in the things he was teaching and saying. The class content was very interesting and was structured very well, being very challenging but very leniently graded and as long as you showed an adequate level of thinking on assignments, you passed with flying colors. He's charismatic and funny and has great energy. With that being said, he's rather traditional in his teaching style. He does not use PowerPoints or lecture slides at all, nor does he post lecture notes or summaries, so going to class and paying close attention to the words coming out of his mouth is ESSENTIAL. Exams were fair and focused on big-picture understandings of the topics we discussed. There's a good amount of reading for this class, fair warning. But as long as you hold good attention and don't absolutely blow this class off, it's an easy A, a really interesting class, and great for GenEd credit. |
