I highly recommend Dr. A as her lectures are extremely engaging and she is super funny. Attendance is not required and her slides are posted on Canvas, however, she goes more in-depth about the info on the slides in the lecture so it is important you go most of the time. You have occasional reading summaries that do not take a long time to complete and three out-of-class assignments that are easy and make you examine yourself. Only two exams throughout the semester and a final all of which are open. Her class has been the most interesting class I have taken so far here at UMD and I am about to enter my second semester as a sophomore. I am a human development major but would recommend this class to anyone who needs a gen ed fulfilled. Easy A! |

(took spring 2024) - Really engaging classes, her lectures felt like TED talks and it doesn't take effort to pay attention. There's lots of in-class group activities, so make sure you like the people you're sitting with. Downside is attendance is pretty important - Decent amount of homework (notes, reflections, etc.) but graded on completion - Exams are essay questions, they're open-note but you won't finish them in time if you don't already understand the material - Lot of content is based on the professor's own research, so it would be hard to use external resources like chatgpt or google to help. You probably won't need to though |

HIGHLY recommend Dr. Alexander and EDHD201. Dr. Alexander is an amazing lecturer and really knows how to capture your attention. Not a single lecture was boring for me. Once you experience one of her lectures, you'll wish every other professor was as engaging as her. She takes the time to learn everyone's names and creates a warm and welcoming environment. She is also a well-respected researcher with decades of research to back up what she talks about. You learn a lot about yourself as a student and how you can potentially improve in the future. One of my favorite classes I've taken so far at UMD! The only small gripe I had was that discussions weren't that useful, but you can skip them if you want. TLDR: a low-stakes and highly useful class. |

Dr. A is an amazing professor! I really enjoyed the class and the material. It is all super interesting and personal. Everything you learn you tie back to yourself which is super cool. You definitely have to put in a good amount of time, there are readings twice a week which take up a while, but if you're interested in the material it's super worth it. If you already have a busy semester maybe save this course for next semester, but if you don't have the craziest schedule I HIGHLY recommend this class! |

Prof. Alexander is awesome! There are four exams (one which you have to write yourself but it's not hard) a little project you have to do. There are opportunities for extra credit so don't fret. She's very animated and really wants people to do well. So speak up and say intelligent things. Not a hard class at all. Very easy to get an A. I studied the night before for every exam, including the final and got high A's on all of them. |

Dr. Alexander (prefers to be called Dr. A) is a very loving and enthusiastic professor who will brighten up your day. Her lectures are engaging and fun to be a part of. The lectures themselves are a little unorganized in terms of following along with the syllabus. She might not cover everything in one lecture so she probably will not test you on it. PowerPoint slides are posted on ELMS. I recommend printing these out because Alexander flies right through them during lecture. Dr. A makes an effort to learn many of her student's names (so watch out if you get called on in class). The class material is pretty straightforward and boring. Discussion sections are mandatory (turn in assignments and stuff). 3 midterms, 1 final, and 1 behaviorism project. No excuse not to get an A in this class. |

Good class. Alexander is awesome - she's a great lecturer and she literally remembers everyone's name eventually. She studies the class roster pictures and tries to learn as many names as she can before the class even starts. Her book is REALLY boring which is weird because her lecturing is interesting / funny. No cell phones or laptops allowed in her lectures though. Sometimes the topics are boring but she makes it as interesting as possible. Discussion is fun too- her TAs have been with her for years and are very helpful! There are exams, but not normal exams at all. A different style of test. Many assignments but they aren't that difficult and are sometimes fun. A couple projects as well. Recommended! |

i expected to get an A in this course that i heard was very easy. this class is an absolute joke. she experiments with all her assignments and directions are never clear. she only rounds grades for people who get As on the last two exams. she gave me a C and i had a 79.9 in her class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. all exams are written worth around 18 points a page and if you forget one word they take off major points. AVOID this class unless you really need to take it. |
