real easy course, the content was interesting to me, and he kept a really open discussion-based class which was fun. really enjoyed the interesting material and was glad i got to learn without having to worry about any overly harsh grading. would highly recommend if you need whatever gen eds it gives.

This was one of the easiest classes I have ever took, and I highly recommend it!! The workload is small - a 150 word discussion post most weeks, 3 or 4 papers, and a final presentation on an object of your choice that only lasts like 3 mins. The reading is usually pretty short, but tbh you don’t even have to do it most of the time. I would usually skim the reading in the beginning of class then I’d be good to go. The main topic of the class is race, gender, and illegality, and how they intersect and influence American culture, so the actual topic is interesting and eye-opening. You can tell Prof Arango is super into what he’s teaching, and he’s also a super easy grader. I never felt as though any of the assignments were hard, and the class averages for the papers were always in the 90s. If you’re on the shyer side don’t let the high participation grade percentage scare you off from this class - I talked maybe 2 times in class this whole semester and got full points. Just make sure you attend on a regular basis and you’re good to go. This class was only once a week as well, so it wasn’t a huge time commitment at all. The class size is also pretty small, maybe 25ish people, but most classes only had half or less show up. I honestly can’t recommend this class enough as a gen ed or elective!

Decent class, but Mateo slips up on a lot of logistical stuff (i.e. not grading things until final grades are due, not announcing assignment expectations, etc.)

This class is an easy gen-ed with a very nice and chill professor. The work load is very minimal, one discussion post a week and theres a couple papers that aren't bad at all. I would highly recommend this class!

good teacher, easy class, and assignments. major assignments consist of a 4-page paper, 5-page paper, easy presentation, and 2-page final paper. Very lenient if you email him. Honestly, was easy for once-a-week gen ed, a little boring. I think he's new to teaching so everyone helped him out which helped us out in the end.

He's an amazing and understanding teacher, the work he gives isn't hard at all. The only downsides there could be are the class participation aspect which might scare people who are easily anxious and the next being some of the material might be a little too harsh or relatable to minority groups. I found it sort of freeing to have a professor who understands and speaks up about problems and topics that POC mostly, but also other minority groups such as members of the LGBTQ+ community, go through. Professor Arango is very understanding and likes hearing up about student's thoughts on the topics at hand, or things that it may remind you of.
