If you can avoid it, try to. This course is the BIGGEST waste of time I have ever had to experience. I quite literally gained NOTHING from this course. It is advertised as a group research class, but its basically like you are just writing an english paper. For the first 1-6 weeks you spend the week reading 6 articles or so (10-20+ pages each) and writing a 700 word report on each of them. Then in class you have to discuss and particpate and answer the questions about it. He also grades this pretty harshly, but this wasnt even the worst part. He set the class time to like 8:30-10pm on a tuesday The group research part, he makes you grade your peers as if it was a competition. Like you cant give everyone a 10/10, you are forced to give people 4/10's and 6/10's. He also takes an eternity to grade and review the papers themselves. He grades based on how he feels like you participated in the group. I am not saying everyone is entitled to an A or anything like that. But the other sections of this course mostly always get all A's and do about a quarter of the work in this course, idk why this course is graded so harshly. If you want to avoid this course, id avoid selection the social aspects option in the hacs498 form and sticking with the other 2. |
