I thought he was really funny in class. And he's a really nice guy. That said, there's a lot of reading studies in this class, so if you don't like academic writing, it could be difficult. He also seems offended if everyone in the class doesn't want to talk about the readings, so talking is encouraged if you want him to be happy. There was also a weird dichotomy where some assignments were graded really difficultly and others were graded really easily. Luckily the assignments that were graded difficultly were weighted less overall. Not the easiest class ever, but with a normal amount of work, you can easily get into the B+/A- range.

This class was pretty worthless. All you do is memorize experimental designs for social science research. I would be fine with this if there was actually some sort of standardization in this sort of research, but there isn't. So if you can just memorize things, you'll be fine. As far as the writing for this class goes, as long as you're halfway decent you'll be fine. Just be sure to follow his prompts exactly. He's pretty awful at lecturing, I basically never got anything out of it. His lecture would consist of 5 power point slides which only addressed the readings at the most superficial level. I always walked out feeling like I had wasted a lot of time. However, participation counts for a fair amount of your grade so you kind of have to show up.

The class has nothing quantitative about it despite the title which I liked because I'm not a math person. The focus is more on research designs and how experiments/surveys are created around a question. Professor Banks is a nice guy but not the best lecturer. He jumps around a lot within a topic, continuously referencing articles that he's read but no one else has and starts to make a point before deciding halfway to drop the connection. His ppowerpoints are never more than 10 slides and packed with information that he throws up all at once while discussing an important part of the reading so I recommend taping the class if you can and going back through the lecture again later. He doesn't post his slides online so make sure you go to class. The readings aren't bad and are focused around mostly interesting topics. Two exams, one paper, three problem sets focused around research design. I used this to fulfill the gvpt quantitative class and it wasn't a bad choice.

Quantitative political anaylsis was a very interesting class. He puts articles online and they are pretty easy to read. My study guides for the two exams consisted of a summary of 6-7 articles, and the tests are straight from the readings.
