Joseph Barnet PSYC100 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/08/2024	Dr. Barnet is super great! The class is very easy, I didn’t even have to take the last exam since he dropped the last one! Grading on the writing assignments was a little bit harder, but they aren’t a big percent of your grade. I’d definitely recommend him if you want a easy introduction to psych :)
Joseph Barnet PSYC100 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/05/2024	Love Dr. Barnett! Chill guy that's very passionate about psychology. His lectures are long, but lowkey they go by pretty fast. He sometimes goes off topic during lectures, but it's not a big deal. We had three exams, no final, and he dropped the lowest exam score. The exams are all multiple choice. We also had weekly chapter quizzes and 5 short essay assignments, but they honestly didn't take too much time to do. Discussion assignments were a bit repetitive, but my TA was amazing and tried her best to help us get full marks on them. Dr. Barnett also dropped our lowest chapter quiz score and discussion assignment. Overall, he made psychology very interesting, and I highly recommend taking him.
Joseph Barnet PSYC100 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/05/2024	Dr. Barnet is a very good professor. The lecture is long, but it was only once a week. The TA discussion sessions are very easy, and the assignments are all group work that you then go over as a class. Make sure to go to your discussion sections because these assignments are easy grade boosts and if you go you won't lose a point on a single one. The tests match the content learned in class and he also drops your lowest test grade of the 3. He drops a few other low grades on the easy textbook worksheets and overall it's very easy to get an A with Dr. Barnet.
Joseph Barnet PSYC221 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/05/2024	Dr. Barnet is genuinely such an amazing professor. He is so kind and accommodating and overall just a great guy. If you are interested in psychology, take this course with him! He makes lectures super engaging and I genuinely enjoy going to his class. You can tell that he is a passionate teacher and cares for not only his students but also about what he teaches. His office hours are also very welcoming and he loves to have discussions with students during this time so would highly recommend going to those. He has discussions every other week for half the class so make sure to keep up with the syllabus and know when to come in. Sometimes he deviates from the syllabus and gives us more time so keep checking your email or listen to his announcements in class. Structure is quite simple: 3 writing assignments, 9 weekly quizzes based on the textbook (online, open book), a final paper, and 3 exams (one of which he drops). Prepare for the exams well and know the experiments! They are all multiple choice which is wonderful but is super helpful if you know the information well. Overall, I highly recommend taking this class with Dr. Barnet!
Joseph Barnet PSYC221 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/05/2024	i genuinely love this man. though he tends accidentally ramble during lectures, everything else is great. not only is he super sweet and understanding but the class is extremely easy to pass. the 3 exams given (the lowest score of the first 2 are dropped) are only based on his slides. so, even though there is a textbook, you really don't need to read it for the exams. as long as you study the lecture slides, which he posts on canvas, you're good. there are chapter quizzes every other week but you have multiple tries and answers usually come straight from the textbook. discussions are pretty smooth and his TA's are pretty good graders. if you are planning to take 221, take this class, trust.
Joseph Barnet PSYC100 Anonymous 12/04/2024	Dr. Barnet has been my favorite professor this semester. I went into PSYC100 being very nervous because I did not take AP Psych in high school and I did not know what to expect. His lectures were very interesting and I enjoyed the quick pace and his ability to interact with the class. He drops the lowest exam grade out of three exams. The exams are multiple-choice and have around 70 questions. I did very well on all of them with only a few days of studying. This class is mostly based on memorization and understanding past experiments. I recommend taking this course and potentially others!

Joseph Barnet Expecting an A Anonymous 12/04/2024	Dr. Barnet is the BEST!! His lecture is very long which is the only annoying thing, but he gives breaks and keeps things as interesting as he can. As for discussions, they are straightforward and as long as you go, you are good. It would be best if you studied for the tests, they are at least 50 questions so its a lot of information to remember. He does drop the lowest test grade out of the 3 so if you do really bad on the first test or a different one, it won't count. He is so understanding and nice. The writing assignments are easy, but the TAs grade a little harsh. If you make a little mistake on a citation or something else, points will be taken off.
Joseph Barnet PSYC100 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/03/2024	Dr. Barnet is great! The lectures were very long (1 hour 40 minutes) but he tries to make them as interesting as possible. His TAs are great! The assignments during discussion are a bit tedious, but it's easy to do well on them. The class has weekly worksheets based on the online textbook, five short-essay assignments, and three exams. For this semester, he dropped the exam with the lowest performance. There was no final. Exams are all multiple choice. They were graded an hour after being taken. He's a great guy and I highly recommend taking PSYC100 with him!
Joseph Barnet PSYC221 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/02/2024	Dr. Barnet is amazing. He gives a few writing assignments but they aren't too difficult as he gives very clear instructions for them, and when they're graded by the TA's, they also give very helpful constructive criticism. He drops the lowest exam grade and gives opportunities for extra credit. His exams were also all multiple choice. You can tell he's very passionate about teaching and it's reflected in his lectures, which are super engaging. He split my class up into 2 groups and half would come in every other Thursday for discussion, which was normally held with TA's. Highly recommend you take PSYC221 with him!
Joseph Barnet PSYC221 Anonymous 12/02/2024	Dr. Barnet is one of my favorite professors. His lectures are skippable but very interesting and engaging. He is pretty lenient, also. He drops your lowest exam grade, sometimes makes exams online/open note, offers many opportunities for extra credit, and posts the lectures online. There are weekly online quizzes that are also open note. I highly recommend his class, he is super nice!
Joseph Barnet PSYC221 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/02/2024	The most amazing professor ever! I had him for my first semester freshman year and he is great. He is super considerate and caring about students' situations, breaks, textbook costs, etc. His lectures are interesting and you can really tell he cares about the subject material. He drops your lowest test grade, quiz grade, makes the writing assignments easy, and changed the final to be a 4 pg paper instead of a test. I would absolutely recommend taking him for any class he teachers you won't regret it.

Classes are skippable, he's an interesting and funny lecturer, so easy to get a good grade because he's so understanding and makes exams online or open note a lot of the time. He also gives so many opportunities for extra credit, and he drops lots of grades, including your lowest exam grade.

Joseph Barnet PSYC221 Expecting an A Anonymous 10/30/2024	I have also taken psyc100 with barnet, leading me to take psyc221 by him because of how much I loved the structure of his classes. We have a quick online quiz every week from hope with is open note, a writing assignment every so often, and 3 exams (one of which is dropped excluding the final). He often runs behind on lectures, but the slides are always available, and he gives a study guide for the exams. He is so nice and accommodating to students needs, just this week he changed our second exam from in person to online (available for multiple days and open note) since it was previously on the day after Election Day and wanted to allow students to stay up late for it. overall he is a wonderful professor and if I can take more classes by him in the future I will.
Joseph Barnet PSYC221 Expecting an A Anonymous 10/23/2024	Dr. Barnet is absolutely amazing! He has been my favorite professor so far at UMD. His lectures are entertaining, the amount of work he gives is reasonable, and his class covers a variety of really interesting topics. I got to connect with him a lot because of how small my Freshman Connection section was. Even if your class is on the bigger side, I still highly recommend attending his office hours at least once, he's a great guy!
Joseph Barnet PSYC221 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 05/19/2024	Dr. Barnet was a pretty good professor and this was a fairly easy class. There are two midterms, one of which gets dropped, a few writing assignments, weekly quizzes, a final paper, and a final exam. The lectures can be a little monotonous but he uses point solutions to send the class interesting polls to make it more engaging. However, there are like ten TAs and a different one grades your writing assignments every time, so the expectations/grading are not consistent at all. Teaching team was not clear about citation/word count expectations, which resulted in me having to argue with the TAs about points being wrongly taken off my papers.
Joseph Barnet PSYC100 Expecting an A Anonymous 05/12/2024	He's okay. The class is really easy but the lectures being 1 hour and 40 minutes is actually terrible. He goes off on side tangents all the time and rambles a lot. He also speaks into a microphone but he screams into it and its so loud so I always end class with a headache. He is really chill though and seems understanding and the content is so simple.
Joseph Barnet PSYC221 Expecting an A- Anonymous 05/07/2024	Barnett was a very solid lecturer, I never got bored in class and was always interested to come every lecture and to pay attention. He posts the lecture slides before class so you can follow along and not have to worry about taking notes. Exams were neither easy or hard but with a little bit of studying using Dr.Barnett's study guide you can do pretty well. He's very easygoing and one thing that stook out to me was when our final exam was announced to be on the first day of exams at 8 in the morning he gave us permission to bring a page of notes due to him thinking it was unfair we were not given as much time to study between classes ending and our exam. Only downside of this class in my opinion is the final is 30% of your grade but I would still recommend taking especially as a Psych student.

Joseph Barnet PSYC221 Expecting an A Anonymous 01/19/2024	He always keeps his lectures interesting. The writing portion of the class can be a little frustrating sometimes because different TAs grade it each time, so you never really know what they want since they have different expectations. He drops the lowest test grade which can also be your final. His tests are very reasonable, I usually prepare using the review slides he posts.

He makes psychology more interesting than it is which is already hard to do with his engaging lectures and authentic personality. He's super funny, down to earth, and always looking to strike up conversations with students. He's also super young so he understands the youth and how we learn best. His workload is super doable and interesting. He dropped one of our tests as well, as long as you study you should be golden for them although the final was a bit harder than his usual exams. Overall 100% recommendation.
Joseph Barnet Expecting a B+ Anonymous 01/08/2024	Good Professor. He's really understanding and allows extensions when you communicate with him. Also he really cares about APA format. It's a lot of content for exam but it is also common sense. Make sure you study, majority of content is on slides, so you don't necessarily need to attend lecture, but it is highly encouraged.

His lectures and discussions are interesting and he is extremely generous with grading. He often offers various extra credit opportunities to boost your grade and the test is always like the powerpoint notes.

Joseph Barnet PSYC221 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/11/2023	Enjoyed the content of this class and Dr. Barnet was very student-oriented. It seems like he really cares that you do well in his class. Content on Exams was all application based but predictable. He drops the lowest exam score so that also took a lot of stress off finals. There is some writing in this course but the essays and content were interesting and he provides a lot of resources to use as support. His lectures are almost straight out of the textbook, so both re-enforce each other. Would definitely recommend.
Joseph Barnet PSYC100 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/08/2023	Loved Professor Barnet. He was super funny, and personable. Something especially helpful was his explanation of the applications of concepts that could be confusing. He made Psych extra interesting, which persuaded me to take his social psych class, PSYC221. The only thing that I wasn't a huge fan of was how fast he would go through slides and would have to skip sections of content due to timing. Overall, he is a great professor and I recommend taking any of his psych classes.
