I strongly recommend AGAINST taking a class with Kenneth Beck. I feel I did not receive a fair grade in his class. I am actually writing this more than a year after I graduated because the grade I got still bothers me. I took Professor Beck’s HLTH106 class the last semester of my senior year in chemical engineering. I needed an extra class so I could stay full-time and thought the topics in HLTH106 would be interesting. I made every effort to be in class everyday. PROFESSOR BECK TAKES ATTENDANCE EVERYDAY, so when I needed to be out of class for the career fair, I gave him advanced notice. I carefully completed every homework assignment, I participated in class by asking thoughtful questions, and I studied for the tests by reading the book and reviewing my class notes. I even went to his office hours to discuss test questions I got wrong so I could learn from my mistakes. I thought I put a more-than-adequate amount of effort into his 100 level class, especially when my other responsibilities were upper-level engineering classes (including my capstone design course) and career searching in a tough engineering job market. I got a B+ in HLTH106, and my final undergraduate GPA was a 3.795. After all the back-breaking work I put into my engineering degree, to miss a 3.8 because of a B+ in a 100 level class was really disappointing. I’m guessing I missed an A- by just a few multiple choice questions on his all-multiple-choice exams. In conclusion, I have to point to Kenneth Beck’s grade distribution. It’s currently 25 % A’s. That’s way too low for a class like HLTH106. PLEASE DON’T REGISTER FOR KENNETH BECK, YOU PROBABLY WON’T GET A FAIR GRADE! |
