Back in HS I reached out to George because I was interested in doing research in his lab. This was the response I received: "For your future applications, if you want to get into a specific lab, you should at least show that you cared to read something about the research in that lab. The generic phrases like "I came across your research and it interests me" are not going to fool anyone. It is perfectly acceptable also to say that you just need an internship as a part of your school curriculum and you are willing to work hard, even though at the moment you don't know anything about this particular research. In my lab, there is no space for more summer interns this year." It's ironic because I included a cover letter and a resume that went into detail. I guess he was the one that didn't "care to read something." This is very indicative of how he is as a person and how he teaches. |
