As another reviewer said, I'm giving Dr. Bernat this score because it is genuinely impossible to fail. There are weekly writing assignments rotated amongst members of 3 or 4-person writing groups. I sincerely suggest that you find a solid group to work with, that is pretty make or break for those writing assignments because your group members' submissions also affect your grade (which is ridiculous IMO). Other major graded assignments are two learning assessments and weekly quizzes. These are also impossible to fail - you have unlimited attempts to get 100% on those quizzes and assessments, so its basically a given that you'll get an A on all of them, unless you have poor time management. Lastly are the discussion posts, which are weirdly graded. Just be thorough on these and you'll be fine. I agree with a recent review that his class and content is confusing, too fast, and poorly organized. I gave up on taking notes early on and rely on his slides for quizzes, writings, and assessments. All in all, my major remark is DO NOT MISS CLASS. As long as you attend class and get 100% on your participation points, all of your writing assignments that are lower than a 100% (or whatever you get on participation) will be raised to a 100%. Basically, if you get a 75% on a writing assignment, it genuinely does not matter because at the end of the semester, if you have a 100% in participation, your 75% will be replaced with a 100%. The participation is literally just clicker questions, which is slightly annoying because the school makes us buy point solutions now, but thats not his fault. If you want a GPA boost, take this class (as long as you're willing to attend every lecture). |

Although Dr. Bernat is a nice man, his course is organized poorly and strangely-in a way that I'm not sure any student is actually learning anything. He has us complete two discussion posts with our writing group per week, but it is unclear what the difference between them is or what their purposes are. His class is twice a week and only for 50 minutes, and for the entire time he speeds through lecture slides non stop and rarely pauses for questions or clarifications. If you miss it and he moves on, there is absolutely no chance you will be able to catch up within that class period. Every single class I hear students talking amongst themselves about how they did not understand a single thing he just taught after spewing out an absurd amount of information from the slides, and how confusing the writing assignments are. The TAs sometimes seem clueless if I'm being honest, and they often forgot to leave feedback so you never knew what to improve on for the next week's assignment. They never had answers to questions during class and it even seemed as if they were unsure what Dr. Bernat was asking of us. His grades are mainly based on clicker participation so it's mandatory to come to class if you want the credit. I would NOT recommend this class unless you are extremely interested in addictive behaviors, but even then the theories and models are extremely difficult to understand and apply without a lot of background knowledge. |

I'm giving Dr. Bernat 3 stars because this course is practically impossible to fail so long as you show up every day and answer clicker questions (legit he replaces your grade in the class with the percentage of clickers you answered - they don't even need to be correct, just answered). However, I learned absolutely nothing in this course, which was really disappointing, as this was a class I was really excited for. If you're looking for a free A, absolutely take this course with Dr. Bernat, but if you're actually looking to learn about addiction psychology, you're going to be thoroughly disappointed. |

I didn't like this professor. He seems nice as a person, but his class structure is very disorganized and he's bad at explaining complex concepts (and will use more complex concepts/words to explain those concepts, which he has to elaborate on to make us understand the original definition, and it goes on like that). Also, we were assigned to groups, and then each week each member of the group had the task of writing that week's writing assignment. Which counted for EVERYONE'S grade, even though only one person wrote it. Super weird. |

He was quite disorganized throughout the semester. He changed the grading rubric part of the way through as well. His slides were helpful when he posted them but he went way too fast in lecture for anyone to write anything down. After week 2 everyone gave up going to lecture and taking notes and just watched the panaptos from home. We also had weekly writing assignments in groups due every Sunday. There was no consistency in the grading so it was hard to know how well we would do each week. He also released grades really late. On the last day of finals he released grades from sepetember and october till the end of the semester and gave us low grades. He knew the concepts well, but I did not learn much from this course. |

What a cutie, can’t get enough of him. His pony tail is very adorable. He uses multiple slide shows instead of using one, which is strange. But it works. |
