Santiago Bonetti ENCE454 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 09/10/2024	I took this Spring 2024 and it was the best course I've taken for engineering at UMD. Bonetti is a concrete engineer during the day which definitely made this course even more enjoyable. He constantly related the content we were learning in class to what he sees every day as an engineer. He was able to show all the math and then translate it to real-life scenarios. He definitely wanted every single person in the class to understand and made it a very welcoming environment to ask questions. The homework was a little challenging but that worked for the better since it forced you to use the textbook to do a deeper dive on the topic. At the end of each homework, I had a firm understanding of what was happening in the course. I would recommend taking this professor for any course and really enjoyed going to lectures every week. By far, most useful course I have taken, and would take this professor again if he taught another topic.
Santiago Bonetti ENCE454 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 04/28/2024	Hands down, Bonetti is the best professor I've had at this university, and I am so incredibly grateful that he started teaching 454. Concrete is not an easy subject, and I did not expect to love it. But with Bonetti, it was fun. The exams were more than reasonable and completely based on the homework which was so helpful for learning the content. Bonetti spent time drawing diagrams on the board and slowing down to make sure everyone understood. If one student had a gap in knowledge (due to past less-than-stellar professors), he wouldn't make the student feel bad but would just fill in the gap for them. He was really approachable and kind. He genuinely cared about his students and was enthusiastic when averages on exams were in the 90s. He connected the content to the real world and made students feel prepared for the workforce and like what they were learning was important. He works full-time, and his work experience made the class so much better - completely in line with what you need in industry instead of wasting time on academia-oriented complicated theories and derivations. I cannot recommend Bonetti highly enough. I truly loved being in his class and am going to miss learning from him. Whatever the class, please take Bonetti. You will not regret it. And if you are a burnt-out structural student questioning whether or not this is what you want to do-- please take his class; it will make you feel curious and enthusiastic about the subject again.
