Dr. Bowen knows his stuff and is extremely passionate in the subject matter. His slides are very VERY dense and somewhat hard to follow but they're full of information and go really in-depth into the topic. The class consists of 12 labs and a take home final. Each of the lab reports are due within a week, but he is extremely lenient on extending deadlines and offering minimal penalties on late work. He is always open for help, responds quickly to emails, and actively helps you actually understand the subject. Dr. Bowen is also one of the best professors I've had while at UMD. He learns everyone's names, throws jokes with us at time, and actively makes sure we're doing alright. Overall, this is an amazing class and Dr. Bowen is an amazing example of what professors should be like. |

Dr. Bowen is an extremely knowledgeable professor, on top of that he is extremely kind and willing to extend deadlines for homeworks. The structure of the course consisted of four homeworks and one final exam. For this semester the final was a take-home and we had about 7 days to turn it in. Dr. Bowen's teaching style is to read slides, and sometimes he brings in a piece of transformer steel or something like that to class to show the students. He does not do any practice problems in class, and his slides are EXTREMELY densely packed and go into a lot of derivations that are extremely detailed. Each lecture slide has more than 100 slides. He is extremely helpful in his office hours and easily accessible over email. The homeworks are very hard and I wished he would do sample problems in class instead of just reading slides. |
