Professor Brown (goes by Liann) was such an amazing professor, by far my favorite since being at UMD. I am not the type of student to glaze a professor or a class but she deserves an award for how engaging, welcoming, and fun lecture and classroom she created. her environment is open and honest which I think created a deep bond for many students like myself. Now onto her class FMSC260! I am a Kinesiology major, so I signed up for this class to fulfill a gened, and I finished the semester with a genuine interest in family science! The class discusses a lot of relationship aspects like attachment styles, the factors driving love, and how to handle conflict, which are so applicable to everyday relationships outside of romantic. For this class there are two exams (midterm and final), 10 participation papers (given at the end of classes randomly) and I cant remember if it was one or two major papers. The exams are easy and study guides are posted a week prior to the exam (you do not need to review for the whole week, especially with other exams, but you should still study fs). The participation papers are given in the last 15 minutes of class and take about 5 minutes to do, and they are SO EASY. I understand the desire to skip but this was the one class I always wanted to show up for and it was not out of fear for missing these papers. The lectures are so interesting and engaging and I really enjoyed being there each time. The reflection papers are like four pages double spaced and you are given four or five LONG prompts to respond to, but you dont have to address each prompt to get full credit. These papers are mostly there just to ensure that you are able to apply the lecture topics into your daily life (which can be personal at times, but you can be as open as youd like). Lastly I cant remember the first major paper topic, but the second one you get to write about a movie or tv show or couple in the media and about their attachment styles which was so much fun. I think this was such a creative way to have students write about something academic while keeping it relevant to society which was really cool. I have recommended this class to all of my friends and Liann was so phenominal! I would take this class all over again if i could!
