worst class DO NOT TAKE!! This professor gives weekly reading quizzes on way too much information and it is extremely time consuming. He is not umderstanding and will rarely give out extensions for assignments. There is a no comptuer or phone policy in his class and he just lectures off of the slides that you can read and undertsand yourself. Dont be fooled by his nice guy presona. Also the structure for his exams is messy, on his review sheet we were given a long list of theorys and had to memorize the peroson, context of theory, time period it comes from, and a policy. He only asked for a few of those on the final but we were required to memorize way too many. it is clear that he is passionate abpout what he teachs but his teaching needs much improvement.

Worst class, do not take! This professor gives weekly reading quizzes that cover an overwhelming amount of material and are extremely time-consuming. He is not very understanding and rarely grants extensions on assignments. There is a strict no-computer or phone policy, and he mainly lectures directly from slides that students could easily read and understand ON THEIR OWN. He also has a strict attendance policy and will take off points from your participation grade, which is worth 10% of your overall grade. Don’t be fooled by his “nice guy” persona. The exam structure is also disorganized. The review sheet included a long list of theories, requiring us to memorize the theorist, historical context, time period, and a related policy for each one. However, only a few of these were actually tested on the final, despite us being expected to memorize far too many. While it is clear that he is passionate about what he teaches, his teaching methods need significant improvement.

Took CCJS105 as a gen ed to maybe see if I was interested in this field. I will say I did learn a lot and he’s a really nice guy but it is a lot of work. The class is structured with a quiz once a week on the readings, and he doesn’t tell you what day the quiz is so its a surprise and you have to do the readings for every class, but I found the readings to be really really helpful because his lectures are fast paced and could be confusing sometimes. Reading the homework beforehand made it a lot easier to follow along. There is a midterm (all multiple choice) then a final (cumulative, but not really actually) both I found to be easy if you study and he also is a very kind grader and curved the midterm for us. The one annoying and hard part of his class was the annotated bibliography that has to be around 7 to 10 pages long. Some people may find it ok but I just hate writing and suck at research so I found this taking up a lot of time for me personally. He is really kind and you can always go to him for questions or anything and he always emails back. You can tell he really cares about his students. CCJS105 in general is a lot of memorization no matter what teacher you take so I’d say if you want a easy gen ed you can definitely find easier but if Criminology is something your interested in its definitely worth taking the class.

He's so nice and understanding about missing quizzes. If you go to his office hours you can ask anything and he will break it down for you. He also drops a few of your lowest grades and gives extra credit. Totally recommend.

Super nice guy, and very understanding. He assigns a decent amount of reading per class, and there will usually be one surprise reading quiz per week, but they are pretty easy, and usually, as long as you do the reading, you will get a high score (he curves them as well, so a lot of times, you may end up with 12/10). One thing is that he does talk pretty quickly, so it can be hard to get all the notes down, but he is aware of this and very understanding if you ask him to repeat or slow down. He also uploads lecture slides after all the classes, so if you miss anything, you can review them. Additionally, the midterm is multiple choice and requires a bit of studying, but again, he curves this. There is one final assignment (annotated bibliography), but besides that, coursework is pretty light.

Instructor Carr was really nice and has a nice structure to his classes. If you take his class, it is important to read the materials that he schedules for that day since there are pop quizzes on the readings. His lectures are pretty engaging and he is very passionate about criminology. I would recommend him for this course!

Nice and understanding guy, he is thorough but talks fast in his lectures. Expects you to do the readings for every class (surprise reading quizzes) and sometimes can get annoying, but he is very passionate in what he does.
