Professor Chen is one of the better professors I've had at UMD. He gives you every tool to succeed: he has Zoom office hours on Sundays and Mondays, so if you don't get something, you can always ask him. He can be a little harsh sometimes answering questions, but I think that's because he's not used to teaching undergrad, a lot of mostly-masters professors I've taken are like that. His review questions are very similar to the exams, and his slides have everything you need. If you like to self-study, he gives you everything you need. He does need to do a better job with clarifying his expectations. He says that the HW will be graded generously, and then the TA will murder you instead for one mistake. He also deducted a lot of points after the 1st exam for very trivial reasons. However, he genuinely cares about his students, and curved the class after realizing that his expectations weren't communicated clearly. The Littlefield game was one of the most fun projects I've ever had, too.

This course is moderately challenging. The professor’s teaching style is good, and the practice problems closely align with the homework and practice exams. I struggled with the first exam since we weren’t allowed a cheat sheet, but I did much better on the second one, though most people seemed to do better on the first. We are allowed cheat sheets on the second and final exam. I wasn’t a fan of the group project and found the game particularly stressful and confusing until about halfway through. I strongly recommend thoroughly researching and fully understanding how the game works beforehand. I thought I understood it beforehand, but I really didn’t.

A really genuine professor who cares about the students and is curving our final exam grades. He has a bit of an accent which I didn't think impacted his teaching much at all. Some of the content is difficult to explain in general although he is very thorough in repeating what he says and includes everything on the slides. He's great at giving real-life explanations/examples of the concepts we learned and has some hilarious jokes that keep the class engaging. Many people found exam 2 to be the hardest due to the relatively complex formulas, although overthinking the content tripped me up more than anything. The only thing keeping this professor from 5 stars for me was that exam 2 was quite different from the practice exam. I know for certain we were allowed a cheat sheet for exams 2 and 3. But I can't remember if he allowed a cheat sheet for exam 1. From what I've heard, Ruhi doesn't allow a cheat sheet on any exams. This professor also would offer office hours on Zoom on Sunday and Monday nights each week which was very helpful in completing the homework and preparing for exams. Overall I would take Zhi-Long Chen over Kazim Ruhi or Radu Lazar for any OMBA class.

Professor Chen has a bit of an accent but he is good at teaching and explains concepts well. The exams are not hard if you do the practice questions and the fact that he allowed cheat sheets on some of them helps a lot.

This is my first OMBA course so maybe they're all like this but I found that it is really hard to understand his teaching because of his accent and if you ask a question sometimes he will make you feel dumb.
