A professor who really cares about her students. I really enjoyed her class. It's definitely a lot of reading but as someone who enjoys that I didn't find it annoying. Two oral exams on zoom and then weekly reading and lecture quizzes. I would recommend taking this as a gen ed.

I was unsure about this class at first because this is only the second or third semester of it, but it exceeded my expectations. There are six books you read over the course of the semester (about a book every 1.5 weeks). All of them are engaging and we talk about the assigned chapters in class each day. Dr. Chico is very passionate and educated in English. Her lectures really do help you think critically and deeply. There are two oral exams but they are manageable and the hardest part of the class. I would definitely recommend taking this if you have an extra slot.

Very nice and caring professor, but her lectures can seem a bit confusing. This class definitely expects a lot of reading, so if that's not for you then I do not recommend this class. Overall, it's a very interesting class and Professor Chico is amazing, just a lot of work and reading!

She was a really engaging lecturer and really seemed like she cared a lot about what she was teaching us. Most of the work we were assigned's primary goal was to make us think about what we were reading, it wasn't just busywork. The amount of reading we had to do could get overwhelming at times, but all of the stories were really interesting.

Professor Chico is very sweet and caring. A very straightforward course consisting of readings and quizzes on those readings. If you thoroughly enjoy reading books, you will like this class. Weekly quizzes and two oral examinations via Zoom serve as your midterm and final. I found it to be a lot of work for gen ed and would not have taken it if I could go back in time. If you take this course, plan to spend multiple hours a week reading.
