dr. choi seems very kind, but like the other reviews said, she really does teach like a researcher that was forced to lecture. but, the saving grace of this class was that she drops 3 of the lowest worksheets, 2 of the lowest weekly quizzes, and essentially gives you 40 free points, so you have a lot of cushioning when it comes to your grade. in my opinion, her exams (including the final) are also more than fair as they only have multiple choice, true or false, and fill in the blank. There are no "essay" type questions where you explain your reasoning. for this reason, her midterm exams seemed loads easier than the other exams i saw that my friends were taking. tldr: very generous with grading and you could choose worse bsci170 professors -- so choose her.

Her class wasn't terrible but she is not a strong lecturer. She is hard to pay attention to because she tends to just read off the slides and it can be very boring. Her tests were fine, no written answers or anything, but this is definitely a "teach yourself" kind of class. However, I did get frustrated because there were multiple times where she would leave class early, even if she had given us an in class worksheet, so we couldn't really ask her any questions. She gives 8 online quizzes, drops two, and gives 8 in class worksheets but only counts 5 so I stopped coming to class after I got 100 on 5/8. The lecture is a bit of a waste of time because she tends to not explain anything and jumps around a bunch with content. Also, we asked her to slow down and she said she couldn't because it was a "fast paced course" but she always ended the lectures 20-30 minutes early... I wouldn't recommend her as a bio professor as I think this content could be very interesting and fun if the person teaching it actually seemed to enjoy it at all. Instead, Dr. Choi's lecturing style made this class a drag and I couldn't wait for it to be over.

She is genuinely a nice lady but she does not want to teach. She is definitely here to do research and then is forced to teach this class. You have to teach yourself and study way too much for an 100 level class to do well on the exams. She reads quickly off the slides and makes weird comparisons to other things that only makes sense sometimes. I recommend going to every lecture because it forces you to read the slides. She mainly uses the slides for exams but I recommend using the textbook tests to study. As long as you do the in class worksheets and the elms quizzes you should be ok, grade wise. She speed reads the lectures and then immediately leaves. I would recommend emailing her if you have a question. You should definitely go to the GSS sessions. They are super helpful and great to have someone actually teach you

Let me start off by saying that Dr. Choi is a very nice person and this was her first year teaching a college-level course. She gives you opportunities to get extra help with topics covered in lectures by having guided study sessions (GSS) and office hours with her and her TA's. Compared to the other professors who teach this course, I would say that she is your best bet. If I am going to be completely transparent, she is an okay teacher. There were a couple of things that I didn't like about her class and teaching style. She reads DIRECTLY from the slides that she makes for lectures and doesn't give the class time to ask questions. Her presentations are always between 45-70 slides long and they are hard to follow because she teaches at a very fast pace. One thing she did tell us is to not rely solely on the slides that she uses to teach to study because you will not pass your exams if you do so. If you really want to do well in her class, use the textbook to study, study in advance, and watch videos on the topics that are being taught. She also made it very clear that she doesn't give extra credit or curves any grades. I will say, she is very good at answering questions in depth if you email her or talk to her directly.

She is a pretty horrible lecturer. It is clear she doesn't want to be there at all but she does make the lecture required (aka random worksheets). It is super quick and she acts like you should already know the information, if you didn't AP or IB biology it will be difficult. She is nice and the class is not the worst, but you WILL have to learn it completely on your own.

She 100% doesn't want to teach this class at all. She is just there because she has to be but her tests are much easier than the lady who runs the lab. I did mess up badly on my 1st one but then on my other exams I got A's. You have to teach your self everything; she records her lessons and I highly recommend you watch them when studying they help a lot. Also all her tests are multiple choice. She has random worksheets but its almost always on Thursdays and she writes them in her slides for that specific class so you have a little bit of a heads up. She doesn't really answer questions and reads off the slides but her tests are only the material on the slides. She emails back fast and her responses are well written. I will say she has a very slight accent but it doesn't really impact her teaching that much. Bottom line: she is not the worst professor to take this class with THERE ARE WORSE. I would recommend her over the lady who teaches the lab 100%.

Teaches like a researcher forced to lecture She seems pretty nice and helpful but she just hasn't done enough teaching to be good at it. You can count the amount of words she says per lecture that ARENT on a slide on one hand, maybe 2. Absolutely anything on the slideshows is fair game for exams, good and bad since they're exhaustive but there won't be any surprises Quizes just use google.com and go to the GSS theyre pretty good for reviewing

She's a very nice lady, but it was her first time teaching a class, and it was obvious. She reads through slides very quickly, doesn't explain the topics well, doesn't take questions during lecture, ends lecture 20-30 minutes early and leaves right away (can't ask many questions after class). She only has one office hour once a week, so if you have questions, she's not accessible in person too often. However, she will always answer an email with an in-depth explanation to answer your question. She also has a bit of an accent that can be hard to understand at times, which makes learning the material during lecture hard. You will have to teach yourself everything. Her tests are not terrible, everything that are on the slides are fair game however. She also gives graded worksheets at random lectures, so you have to be at every lecture in case or you'll get a zero for the assignment. The key to success in her class trying to be engaged during lecture, and going through the slides on your own and blurting or writing everything on a whiteboard. Make sure you know the cellular processes well and memorize the ideas and details on the slides.

She just reads off the slides really fast. Just get ready to teach yourself everything. Textbook and youtube videos. The structure of the class isn't too bad though.
