The best class I've taken at UMD. Stephanie Chou is the goat as well. Fully discussion based. Didn't do too many readings and it's easy to understand. But the readings are super interesting and hit bars every time. Easiest A+ of my life as well. One group presentation, 2 2-page papers, and the final is a chat with you and the teacher. Take this class!! Honestly, this could be a required class and nobody would complain. |

Professor Chou is so nice. She does care about the success of her students and does all that she can to ensure that everyone does well. The vast majority of grades are participation, where you literally just show up for class, I barely spoke and still got an A+. You must do a partner lesson on one of the readings, but she will help you with it. There are 3 analysis papers, but this semester she made the third one optional and took the average of the first 2. For the final you get the choice of having a 45-minute conversation about your philosophy of education or write a paper, I say do the conversation because it is so easy so long as you back up your thinking with things mentioned in class. Overall, I loved my time with Stephanie and definitely recommend you take TLPL250 with her as it is almost impossible to get lower than a B to B- in the class. |

excellent professor. she is super kind and understanding and is genuinely a nice person to talk to! It's a lot of reading, but everything is discussed in class as a group so if you attend class regularly (attendance is graded with a few excused absences) you will understand what's going on. there are short essays and a final essay, but the short essays are based on what's discussed in class and there is an option to have a 40 minute conversation with her for the final. If she still offers that option, TAKE IT!! She is a fair grader for essays and if you attend class you will do well. The final conversation was extremely laid-back, and was a much better option than writing an entire essay! If you're someone who can commit to going to class and isn't stressed by talking to professors, it's a really good class to take for education and non-education majors. |
