This class is entirely made up of an overwhelming amount of busywork, much of which seems completely unrelated to any of the work that you're doing within the course. There is no clear structure and she does not get back to your emails. She takes forever to grade assignments, many of which build off of the previous one, so if you do something she doesn't like in the initial assignment and then continue to go down the same route in the subsequent assignments, you'll find out after the fact, making it impossible to improve or implement feedback. She is completely disrespectful of her students' time and energy, waiting to post assignment details until the day that they're due and the sheer amount of work is ludicrous. Truly the worst professor I've had at UMD and I'm wishing I had never taken this course, as it's taking time away from my other courses and professors that actually deserve my time and attention. |

Good professor, lots of easy busy work that boosts your grade. This class only really has 4 big assignments - the academic summary, rhetorical analysis, portfolio, and position paper. She provides clear guidelines as to what is expected for each assignment and also provides feedback on your writing. This class does have a lot of homework, but it is all posted in advance so you ca finish it all a week before you have important exams so you don't have to worry about it later on. My only problems with her class is that she takes absolutely forever to grade major assignments. I am writing this on May 17 and have still yet to receive a grade for my portfolio and my position paper, meaning my grade could entirely change and I would not have any time to do anything about it. Other than the long grading period, no problems, good professor option for ENGL101. |

Take this professor. She has a decent amount of assignments but is very understanding and flexible, and most of the work she gives is supposed to build and help you prepare yourself for the major assignments and final. |

This is the STUPIDEST course I have taken at UMD it is just a complete waste of time. Every week you get assigned 4 assignments that are pure busy work and shit they probably got from a high school textbook. Every once in a while they will replace the busy work with a long paper on a topic not related to business at all. The school making this a required course is just a way to steal money from people I did not learn a thing and wish I wasn't forced to take it. I wanted a way to complain about how much I hate the course itself, but there isn't a place for me to do that, so I did it here. Cochran is a good enough professor except for the fact that she assigned two final projects, a 15-page report on a random topic that you choose, and an e-portfolio (this is something you'd expect to do in high school. They were both assigned around finals time, so all it really did for me was take my time away from studying for real classes. I had friends with other professors who only had the e-portfolio, which would have been manageable enough, but for some reason, Cochran gave us both. Thank you for reading my rant I wish you the best of luck in this joke of a class. |

Absolutely take this professor, by far recommend, I love her!! I took her for ENGL 101. There are 3 main papers and a recorded presentation. She is very understanding and is willing to make time to meet with you to provide you clarity with whatever you may need. |

Nice professor, but she takes forever to grade. She just graded a major assignment for the course two months after it was due, and gave me a poor score, dropping my grade significantly. this major assignment was also the foundation for any future assignments (which have not been graded), and I could not improve my work based off of feedback since she graded the major assignment after I had already submitted other supplemental assignments. I have no idea what grade I will earn, since she has yet to grade any more heavily weighted assignments for the course. |

Definitely take her if you can! Easy homework with in class exercises to review the homework. At the beginning of class, the homework may feel like a waste of time (some are) but you will realize that a lot of the critical readings are preparing you for the papers you will write. The Academic Summary, Rhetorical Analysis, and Position Paper are the notable assignments. She gives you decent time to prepare and get a good grade. Before the due date, there will always be an in class "workshop" in which you will peer review another persons paper which is very helpful. Professor Cochran is a great human who is flexible and understanding. Take her for sure. |

A really great professor. She gives reading assignments and explains the material to prepare you for each of the major assignments for the course. She also gives really good feedback, and I definitely noticed my writing improve through her class |
