I really enjoyed Professor Cohen's class. His power points give a good basis of what you need to know for his exams. As others have mentioned, the group project is very open ended so you should be very thorough and try to get a good group. Cohen is one of the best professors in terms of getting to know his students and helping them with getting internships and jobs. My only complaint is that Professor Cohen tends to play favorites with certain students, which can be apparent at times. I suggest taking this class if you are interested in anything related to global supply chain as Professor Cohen has tons of experience in it.

Professor Cohen was an unbelievable teacher. He was very knowledgeable about the class and was enthusiastic about it as well. Although he talked a lot about Starbucks and Apple it was an entertaining and useful class.

Cohen is great! He spends a lot of time discussing current events (and requires student participation) and the remaining time on lecture. His tests were somewhat difficult because they can be very specific but he gives lots of hints during class. Don't really need to take notes just go over the slides before the test, I don't think I read the textbook much at all. The group project can be a little annoying - its very open. Just make sure you get a good group!

Cohen is a fine teacher, engages his students from the get-go with current events, personal stories and campy profanity that he isn't very good at. Going to class is important for the participation grade (10%) but as far as taking good notes it's not overly necessary, the slides are pretty good. He claims the tests are heavy on class specific material, but no. Read the book carefully and the tests are fine, the second one being the hardest of the three. The group project is kind of ambiguous, which is good if you have really enthusiastic group members but bad if you like to be told what to do step by step. At the end of the course there was about a 3% curve which gave me an A-, so overall not a bad course.

Professor Cohen is overall a very good professor. He seemed very knowledgeable about, and interested in, business and management in the real world. He drew a lot of examples from his own professional experiences and used a wide range of teaching materials, including video clips. Based on my own experience, the best way to succeed on the exams is to do the reading. Pay attention in class because the information will be reinforced there, but the readings are definitely the most effective and complete representation of what will be on the exam. There are a few questions in the exams that start with, "In class, we learned that such-and-such means..." or "We saw in such-and-such video that...", but the majority of the questions come from the reading. The exams are actually pretty tough, which can be a little unexpected because Professor Cohen sometimes implies that they're relatively easy, but if you don't do too well on them, don't freak out. There is a curve at the end of the semester, and it's pretty generous. A lot of the information is fairly easy to understand, but it certainly helps to have some experience in economics. If you've taken AP economics in high school, that can be pretty helpful. I imagine that taking some economic class at the university before/at the same time would probably be just as helpful. Also, another piece of advice: Professor Cohen recommends flashcards as a study tool. I think these help, but they don't replace doing the reading. I did much better on the exams where I just paid attention to the reading, and not so well on exams where I had focused more on making flashcards and less on the information that was not vocabulary-related. Taking notes and making flashcards probably help as a supplement, but definitely, definitely focus on reading the textbook. All in all, I enjoyed this class and I'm glad I signed up for it.

Cohen is very good at setting up an environment for engaging conversation, but the actual content of the discussion is a waste of time. In class, the first part is general discussion. If you are a die-hard fan of MacDonald's, Starbucks and Apple, you will find this part of the class enjoyable. The second part is content. While he will tell the class that the entire exam will be based on what is discussed in class, the exam wil hardly follow what was discussed. He is like the credit card companies - follow what is in the syllabus (which he calls your contract) and pay no heed to what he says. In all, if you are not a die-hard fan of the companies mentioned and you are really interested in what this class is about, just read the case studies in the book and sign up for books' word press site. You will be able to discuss the latest going on the business sector there.

First, let me qualify the other few posts. I believe these posts are from kids who want to make sweet love to the supply chain/suck up to teachers. ignore these other reviews. gary cohen is OK as a teacher. hes not as nice as a guy as everyone paints him to be. He came in saying the first test was going to be really easy, and the class average was an 82. overall, including all three tests, the class test average was an 85. this is obviously not very high. also, he takes A TON of test material straight from the book that he NEVER goes over in class. so basically, hes saying thanks for spending tens of thousands of dollars on an education you couldve gotten from an overpriced $120 textbook, which can teach just as well as i can. I'm an IB major, and I hate the supply chain. I also hadnt taken the other scm course, 372. i HATED this class. there is almost no reason to go to class, except i think he recognizes who is there and factors it into participation, so i highly recommend going. the class is graded on three tests, a project, two cases, and participation. its just too bad he doesnt quiz you on his own life, because sometimes the class turns into GCohen101: life of a gloves salesman. If you love scm, youll probably like this course. if think scm on the same level of excitement as the wnba, like i do, good luck and god speed.

Warning: If you have not done Economics or are not currently doing Economics, I strongly suggest that you NOT take this this course (or if you still want to take it, get a Economics textbook and study from that mostly). The course is heavily weighted toward topics that are covered in Economics and at least some of what is covered in Communications.

Prof. Cohen is amazing!!! Not only is he knowledgeable about business topics, but he is supportive outside of class as well. His exams are fair and cover content from class, so studying for them is easy if you keep up. His "current events" discussion at the beginning of class makes for great debates. Overall, he really cares about his students and isn't kidding when he says that he's "the most accessible professor at Smith".

Cohen is a great professor. He starts each class with a discussion on business news. We talk about it and he'll pose question really getting you to think about it. He runs class very effectively and well and is my favorite class to attend because he really likes student input and makes an active effort to learn everyones names, which is always refreshing compared to some professors who could care less. We haven't had any assignments due yet so I can't really speak to his grading but he seems to be very fair so far. Very engaging but moves through the slides very fast so make sure you print them out before class or you can't keep up. I would strongly recommend taking a class with him.

Professor Cohen is a very nice guy and he means well. However, his try-to-come-off-as-very-nice attitude can sometimes be his undoing. He has a lot of experience in the business world and he frequently gave useful and practical advice that ca only be learned from experience. However, I felt that his scholastic knowledge of business was sometimes lacking, as was shown by his frequent inability to helpfully answer questions. Though I normally wouldn't really care about this, it made his exams more difficult because he taught the class in a discussion setting rather than in an academic setting which is how his exams were organized. Still, he was a good professor to have, he was very easy to talk to and reach out of class and he was a nice guy.
