Funny professor, lectures are very interesting. Slow grader, however. HW is extremely easy, midterms are easy as long as you review the slides. Do the practice midterm very similar questions. |

the guy is smart, but it's pretty hard to pay attention in his lecture, so you're better off by just reading his slides. however, don't get too far behind, because you will regret it later when the midterm/exam comes around. his grading...scheme/logic behind his grading is weird, but i think it helps? however he does NOT use elms to calculate your score, so you're pretty much not going to know at all where you are at until the end of the semester. the 2 papers are graded leniently for the most part, and the homeworks aren't that bad considering you can work on them together with other people. also i would say that this class is pretty even combination of history and math/physics. the guy's nice, very knowledgeable, if you really put the effort you'll learn a lot, but this class is not a guaranteed gpa booster unlike a class like enes140 or enee200. |

This is the class and the professor that I would recommend to anyone as a fun I-series class. As a science major in general, I found the class extremely interesting and fulfilling. I got much out of this class in term of personal and career development than I expected. All the stuffs are elms and you just study straight from them for exams and final. The most challenging part was probably the reading assignments, but I gave up after the first month or so. You don't have to go to all the lectures, but since it's so entertaining, why not! As for the homework, if you took some sort of math in college, you would be fine. There were some that were a bit confusing, but most were just so annoyingly simple. |

A very interesting and charismatic professor. He's really enthusiastic about the course material and there are a ton of powerpoint slides that he goes through throughout the semester and I've found that you don't necessarily need to go to every lecture, but you should go to most. The homework is all math and conceptual physics, and as a physics major, I found this part to be incredibly simple. Exams aren't too bad, the two papers are graded very leniently, and a great way to study is just going through all of the slides a number of times. |

One of the nuttiest professors I've had here. Incredibly smart and incredibly enthusiastic, but as a business major I thought the class was going to be more of a history class rather than actually solving calculations in nuclear physics. Weekly homeworks were incredibly hard unless you had a partner to work on the homework with and the exams were incredibly difficult. Overall a good class though. |

Quite possibly the best physics professor I've had so far in UMD. The tests on the other hand are extremely easy. Throughout the entire semester, I've been to lecture at most 5 times, read the book before the day of the exam, and still managed to pull As on my tests. The only bad thing I would say about Cohen is the heavy weight he puts on Homeworks (20%) and Discussion Quizzes (5%), though this may work for you if you actually do your homeworks. |

Tom Cohen is a pretty cool guy as far as physics teachers go. He tried really hard to make boring material seem at least vaguely interesting and his tests looked a lot like the practice tests. He was very open to meeting with students, discussing concerns, and going over material outside of class. Overall he's a very approachable guy who just wants students to have a painless physics experience. |
