Merle Collins ENGL448A Expecting an A bikinikillm3 01/15/2013	I LOVED this class! Professor Collins is responsive to student concerns, patient, and lenient. She is an immensely impressive teacher and does not assign more work than reasonable.
Merle Collins ENGL362 Expecting an A- Anonymous 10/29/2011	I took ENGL362 with Professor Collins. The readings were interesting and the discussions were enlightening, which is why I gave the class two stars. Collins was extremely disorganized. I like to take my time with papers, which was impossible to do because she assigned the papers a week in advance. Then she graded really hard with little to no comments. How can she expect to have overly-exemplary work when she sets students up for failure? My advice: choose a different class for diversity or Group 2 credits.
Merle Collins ENGL448A jonessy 04/14/2011	I would not recommend this professor. Her class is rediculously boring, and she has no structured course plan at all. She doesnt try to make the class fun either. She also expects you to approach the class like a graduate student. She assigns 15 page papers, and wont tell you what the paper topics are until like a week before the paper is due. Shes nice, but I think its time for her to retire. If you dont like caribbean literature, dont take this class. If you are a women studies major, this class is perfect for you.

Merle Collins ENGL362 Expecting an A- Anonymous 05/24/2009	Professor Collins was by far one of the best professors I have ever had at UMD. She is extremely passionate about Caribbean literature, she is always so happy and funny, and I learned so much from her great lectures. She creates a very open dialogue in class and is VERY knowledgeable. If you are going to read the books and take time on the papers, you will get an A.
