Dan is amazing. He always takes the time to explain things until you understand, whether it's in class, in office hours, or over email. I've taken many upper-level math courses and this was by far the hardest in terms of the content and the homework assigned, but Dan's explanations made things so much easier. He's one of the most generous graders I've ever had, so you can focus on making sure you learn things without needing to worry about your grade. Your grade is calculated based on whichever one of the three weighting systems gives you the highest score, and he curves exams to have high averages. Admittedly the exams do tend to incentivize memorization more than understanding as the questions mostly come from what we've covered in class, but if you focus on learning and ask him if you don't understand things, you'll still get a lot from this class.

Dan's the GOAT. I've never seen a professor be so quickly and willingly responsive to student questions or requests. (Thank the department for not saddling him with lower-div classes.) Exams are curved generously and he offers an extra credit opportunity. The content of the class was probably the hardest math I've ever learned, but Dan's lectures cover the most educative examples and his homework assignments are chosen carefully to be useful to future classes, just make sure you read the textbook in addition to attending lectures.

Dan is a fantastic professor. He's super approachable, open to feedback on the class, and explains content thoroughly. At every point, he makes sure to address any and all questions *in detail*, so if you're ever confused - just ask, he'll make sure you understand everything. He's also great in answering small questions after class, over email, or in OH. He took feedback throughout the semester which helped improve the class, leading to more examples and a bit of a later deadline on homework. The homework load itself is pretty much like most hard math classes, it's weekly - takes a good few hours, but it's important to understanding the material and isn't busywork. The grader was also great for this class, gave lots of good feedback. The exams were adequately curved, as was the class itself. While MATH437 was probably the hardest class I've *ever* taken, Dan made it an enjoyable one and made sure everyone did well.
