Despite understanding the course and doing well (A avg on the quizzes) I was forced to withdraw for having the wrong edition of the textbook. Homework is graded quite slowly so by the time I figured out I was using the 11th edition instead of the 14th, I would lose 10% of my overall grade. Professor was unsympathetic to my simple error and said this wasn't a valid excuse. Each edition of the textbook changes up the homework questions to force students to buy the new one. |

Gave a pop quiz on the first day of school, rushes everything, crams years worth of content into a semester which is ALREADY STRESSFUL ENOUGH. |

The online version of ENCE602 with Prof. Cui was pretty meh. The class revolves around reading one or two case studies each week and then relating them to that week's project procurement management concept. There were also other articles and textbooks that supplemented each week's focus, but there was rarely ever any indication of what chapters/sections/etc. to read, so if you tried to look through all of the material for that week, you would end up spending way more time studying than necessary for this course. Plus, the prof barely brought up any of those materials in class anyway, so you could get away with not really reading anything. Additionally, Prof. Cui told us to watch recordings of the previous semester's in person class lectures, which made the actual class meetings feel a bit redundant as he basically went over the same material. However, because 30% of your grade is based on participation, being present during the weekly zoom meetings was a must. The meetings felt like a warzone at times since everyone was trying to participate in class discussions and there wasn't any sort of hand raising system set up beforehand, you just had to unmute your mic as the prof was talking and hope that no one talked over you. Prof. Cui also likes to ramble and go off on tangents throughout the lecture, making it difficult to follow along at times. He is a nice guy though. The other 70% of our grade was based on 3 homework assignments, which wouldn't be too bad if not for the fact that he never released the grades for those assignments until after the last week of classes were over, so I genuinely had no clue how well I was doing the whole semester. He did provide opportunities to earn extra credit though by attending some seminars and writing a report on them to get an additional 1% or 2% on your overall grade. I would recommend this course to people who have decent time management and studying skills, especially because you may end up doing more work for this class than you initially expect to. I would also recommend this course if you like to be an active participant in class discussions and do well with a prof whose teaching style is just to talk for an hour straight without any clear guide as to the what the lessons for the week are and not have any PowerPoint slides or notes pulled up for students to follow along. |

So many concepts, so badly explained, ones we didn't cover on the exams, brutal midterm - need I continue? My dad is an accountant and he was shocked by how much Cui was trying to cover. He tries to cram four years of accounting into one semester with only class per week. It is an insanely hard class if you have no background in accounting. Brutal. Take it over the summer if you can. Apparently, he is way more chill then and you don't have to the massive group project at the end of the semester |

Took the summer offering of this course, which is nice because it cut out the group project and only has one exam. Cui had a synchronous meeting once a week but it always felt really redundant because he would lecture on topics that we had already learned about in the online pre-recorded lectures that he would have us watch. That being said you do get bonus points for attending these meetings, so it's worth going just for that. |

Professor Cui is extremely nice. He is genuinely interested in the project procurement, as well as his students' understanding of the topics. He takes the time to address all questions and creates interesting discussions during class. His assignments are fairly open-ended so you can put in as much work as you want. He seems to care a lot about class participation so be ready to speak up if you're taking one of his classes. |
