Agree with pretty much everything said in the review below me. The criteria for stuff was never very clear, and the class was disorganized. |

This professor would grade assignments a month and a half late, would change the syllabus as we went. Spent most of the class cold calling people, then would leave 5-10 minutes to do an in-class activity which would take 20 minutes. Also came to class late >25% of the time. Everyone laughed when the final exam ended, because even with 2 hours nearly everyone left things blank. There is a time when you should say "its his first time teaching give him a break," but he clearly has not put in an ounce of effort into the class. A 4 star review is ridiculous, "I have no clue what is happening in class," and you give him 4 stars?? Ritesh needs to make a major change and actually prioritize being a professor, otherwise he is wasting everyone's tuition money. He is a nice guy tho :> |

I understand that this is his first semester teaching, but being this unprofessional and unorganized as a professor is not okay. He often blames students for not learning or understanding the content, even though his lectures are very sloppy and hard to follow. A lot of the time, it feels like he is just thinking about what to say as he goes, which makes it confusing and frustrating to learn from. His assignments are worded very poorly and are extremely vague, to the point where students are basically guessing what to do half the time. Grading also takes a very long time. The class itself is not hard, but it becomes difficult because you often don’t understand what he is trying to explain or what he expects from us. He constantly talks about wanting students to be “engaged,” meaning actually interested in the material and not bored, but it’s hard to do that when lectures are mostly just him reading directly off the slides. This makes it difficult to stay focused or genuinely interested in what he’s teaching. There also seems to be some bias toward students who participate a lot, so I would recommend participating as much as possible. There were also major communication issues between him and the TA. At times, the TA was forced to cancel lab or figure things out on the spot because of poor coordination. At one point, we were required to attend lecture during our 50-minute lab time, and it was extended to two hours, which should not have happened. I hope he improves throughout semesters, but overall, this class left a really bad first impression. |

One of the worst professors I’ve taken at UMD. AI slop slides with a teaching style that is erratic, energetic in the worst ways, and rude. The only helpful content is the labs made by a different professor and taught by an overworked TA. Comically difficult final exam with AI slop review: my friend in another 402 section had his be similar to his labs rather than SQL subqueries to the 8th root… the in-class activities are incoherent and he regularly expects students to stay over to finish them: if every single student ends up having to stay 10 minutes late to finish the activity, perhaps that’s not a good thing. He will constantly make up new requirements for projects and submissions and will snap his fingers at you if you don’t do his every whim or thought that suddenly occurs to him at 3 AM. Overall, what a terrible course. It genuinely has made me think less of IS as a major that they selected someone like this as a professor for a supposed flagship IS class and minor requirement. Yes, he sometimes solicits feedback and tries to learn, but he is so egotistical that he ignores every bit of feedback given to him. |

I understand this is his first semester teaching and that some issues may stem from inexperience, but others do not. Early in the semester, a significant amount of class time was spent on inefficiencies like reading student names from a printed paper to excessively cold call for answers to his questions. He would also require every student to share something they found interesting from the slides. As a result, we fell behind on lecture content, and some labs were dismissed early by the TA because we didn’t know the covered material yet. After multiple complaints and a classroom observation by an IS faculty member, his teaching improved slightly; but many of these habits persisted to a lesser degree, suggesting they are part of his teaching style rather than temporary growing pains. The course included a group project with three deliverables, but additional steps and requirements were often introduced that were not reflected in the original guidelines, creating confusion and shifting expectations. It’s as if he’d think of something new, believe it was a brilliant implementation, and spring it on us. On the inexperience side, he struggled with Canvas. In class activities were sometimes not open for submission or locked before we could finish due to him underestimating time commitment. He’d tell us to email him our work instead. By the end of the semester, he asked us to compile all emailed activities into a single document, acknowledging his difficulty tracking our emailed submissions. Grades for these activities have been delayed for extended an period because of this. He is kind, helpful, and responsive to emails. However, given that BMGT402 is intended to prepare students for BMGT403, he was not well equipped to teach such a critical course. |

This was his first semester teaching, but honestly, the class just feels disorganized and confusing. I really hope that the class improves as the semesters go on, so this review might not be relevant after a while. There are in-class activities that happen almost every class, and he doesn't really provide enough time to do them, so he will often extend the deadline after a lot of pressuring from students. It is honestly a mystery to me what my grade will be; the assignments are not graded very quickly, so it is hard to get an idea of how you are doing in the class. The group project is confusing, and I am also unsure how the group will perform on that assignment. I am honestly scared for the final because it is cumulative and the lectures are not very engaging, but it is written out, so I anticipate opportunities for partial credit. He does not say if the class will be curved, but it seems that many students are not doing well in the class, so there is a chance that he will give a good curve on the exam. He seems like a nice guy, but his class is just messy and confusing. If you take the class, try and pay attention even if it isn't engaging because of the cold calling. |

He's a good professor. But like I have no clue what's happening in class, but he's super understanding and like will respond to every single email, even if it's sent at 2 AM within 30 mins. His office hours are chill, and he actually explains everything there. But do beware, he randomly picks you to answer a question and has random in-class assignments, which are 12% of your grade. You're lowkey cooked if he knows your name, but he never makes you feel dumb for not knowing the answer and actually guides you to the right answer. I would take this class again with him if I had to. |
