I really enjoyed this course. Dr. DeStefano is extremely knowledgeable in the topic of virology and does frankly a great job at keeping it interesting while still ensuring the difficult concepts are explained well. There is definitely a benefit to taking genetics courses prior to as a huge scope is how viruses replicate and work overall, and some parts can be tedious. He makes it pretty clear, though for exams, what topic you should be able to name a few examples of and then other things that arent as important. He drops 1 of the 3 midterms, and the final is not cumulative. There are attendance points and honestly I did a lot better on the last 2 exams thanks to reviewing his posted lectures with attached audio files to each slide, this does make attending lecture a little tedious as if you don't review the content prior, he sometimes moves too fast for good notes, and I found myself needing to go through most content again online to amply prepare for exams. No homework or outside of class assignments, would definitely recommend this course for any bio major needing an upper level course, far easier than even 222 and 223, I'd say 330 as well. For a 400 level class I would definitely recommend. |

Amazing professor, he keeps lectures fun and engaging. The content isn't always straightforward, but he does a great job of explaining everything and is always willing to answer questions. The exams aren't easy, but they are fair. He records the lectures which I really like, it's helpful to review everything again after class. This isn't a super easy class, but it is for sure manageable if you are willing to study. You can tell he's super passionate about the material and I love hearing him talk about his own research and experiences with virology. |

This class, which was co-taught with Dr. Kramer, was the best class I've ever taken at this University. It's pretty laid back, and although I agree with the review below that he's not the most engaging lecturer, he adds notes on the bottom of the slides telling you exactly what you need to know, so if you miss a class it's not the end of the world. Despite the fact that there is no curve and you can't drop an exam like other 400 level bio classes, it's not tough to get at least an A- in this class. If you looking for a fun, low-stress upper level bio class to take, definitely take this class. |

He's alright. His powerpoint slides can get a little long and tedious sometimes. He enjoys posting blocks of text in each slide. He is kind of boring while speaking too, but maybe it was just the material (various mechanisms of viral entry and infection). He seems like a genuinely nice guy. |
