While Professor Dieudonne is nice enough as a person, that's pretty much where the positives end. The topic of the class is admittedly fairly mundane but, as with most classes, there were definitely ways to make it engaging, meaningful, and interesting. She just doesn't do that. I know she's a new professor but it's pretty clear she doesn't have enough material to go off of. She'll make some pretty bare slides for lecture and read them off, which lasts for around 40 minutes of the hour and 15. Then she'll put up a slide with a few questions and then you’ll break out into groups and discuss, usually submitting some sort of text response. This part will take up the remaining time. It's rinse and repeat, and it’s about as fun as it sounds. Her Canvas page management is honestly just terrible. It can be frustrating when you have a professor who puts everything under one section but I wish that was the case for her. The locations of the files she requires you to locate do not follow any discernible pattern and seem to average 10 clicks away from the homepage, in any which direction. You'd think a young professor would have a better handle on this but she really doesn't seem to. Overall, it just feels like a lot of filler. I think most people end up taking classes that feel pointless, and it's one thing to feel like you don't get anything from a class, but on top of that, Professor Dieudonne is quite strict. On an otherwise clean record, I messed up and submitted one of the papers less than 24 hours late. I emailed her asking for any leniency but she said no and gave me a zero. She's kind and forgiving in person, but the second communication is virtual, it feels like she won't give you an inch. Maybe I've been coddled but I just don't find that kind of harshness necessary. Also, don't use AI for any course (it's not worth it), but definitely don't do it in her class. Some of my peers described her as being "very proactive" in determining if AI was used. Strangely, it’s pretty clear she uses AI to write some of her assignment descriptions and prompts. I think what she needs to do is be more authoritative on the subject. I don't mean it in a rude way, but it felt like I was being taught by someone who learned about the topic the week before. It was eye-opening when the graduate TA took over for a few classes and delivered some really interesting and thought-provoking lectures that engaged us without making us talk in groups about 3 questions for half an hour. So, thank you Henriette Mahamane. I wrote a lot and I get it, she's a new professor and I'm sure a lot of this is her growing into her role. Regardless, I definitely would not recommend taking her class if you don't want to be the Guinea pig she tests her professorial skills on. |

Fall 2025 was Lindsay's first semester teaching this course, but immediately proved that she was more than capable of making the class great. Much of the grade was given through in-class discussion, which would usually be a turnoff, but she is excellent at continuing a class conversation and getting our minds going. The papers were rather straightforward, which was nice, and the exams were simple but tough to do given the time restriction. The only criticisms I have are that the subject matter felt unsubstantial at times (as though we were learning only a fraction of the overall topic), and that the material didn't follow much of a linear pattern over the semester, causing anything learned to feel rather disjointed; I'm sure those kinks will be worked out in future semesters. Overall, I would highly recommend her class! |

Professor Dieudonne is wonderful! She starts every class with current events which is helpful to stay on top of policy developments. There is a sign in sheet for attendance and three essays(all about me, AI, identity topic of your choice). She makes what would otherwise be a boring class enjoyable |
