This class is honestly ridiculous. He is VERY picky when it comes to grading. The rubric is basically his mood and I can tell you that earning an A in calc2 is a thousand times easier than this class.

I actually found DiMarzo's lectures very useful unlike the other reviews here. He really wants students to succeed in the class and is very receptive to student concerns. The midterms and final were very fair. If you did the review problems supplied by the professor before the midterms and finals you were very prepared for it. My TA Daniel Bae was also extremely helpful in the studio periods, which basically involved solving example problems for the class. So many peopl skipped the studios but they were the most helpful part of the class.

Lectures are not always the most useful material, but most can be learned from the homework. Exams are generally easy with high averages, also graded very leniently.

Lecture can be difficult to follow because his voice is pretty flat and the course itself has a fair share of derivations, but once he's done slogging through that he gets straight to what you actually need to know. He definitely knows what he is talking about and is very willing to help students. Homework can be pretty brutal, but the exams and labs are laughably easy.

Great professor. He can make the material a lot easier to understand, and goes through solid examples to make the class more intuitive and applicable beyond the class. I only wish he taught the lecture as well as the discussion sections.

Probably my favorite professor at UMD. Can make heat transfer a fun class, yes some days are filled with boring derivations, but he keeps the class interesting. In studio is really where he really shines. He has more time to explain the topics and he really breaks down all of the concepts so they can be understood. On quizzes and exams if you have the right thought process but not the right numerical answer you will usually only lose one point if any as DiMarzo harps on knowing the principals behind your decision. Also, he never chose an overly complicated problem for the exams, quizzes or final. I really enjoyed having Dr. DiMarzo for this class he can be a pretty funny guy as well.
