Absolutely loved this class. If you're a fan of MMA and have an interest in training a martial art, this (Gi) BJJ class is for you. Super beginner friendly in its pacing and the professor is extremely approachable and kind. If you have ever wrestled before, the class structure is very similar. The main difference is that you start with meditation and other aspects of martial arts at the beginning of each class. After meditation, the coach and a TA demonstrate a new move, then everyone pairs up to practice it. The coach and TA walk around helping anybody that needs it. Nobody is ever put on the spot or pressured to do anything they can't. This is a very easy class to pass and have an A in as long as you show up (over 6 absences = fail). |

Probably the best professor I have ever had. For a beginner jiu jitzhu class he teaches very thoroughly and comes around to help. He is extremely nice and easy on grading. The midterm and final are just you demonstrating the moves which you practice over and over again in class for weeks and is only like 5 skills (you learn more skills than are graded on). There are also online quizzes that are very easy. This is a physical education class so the biggest part of your grade is showing up so you lose points if you skip class and if you miss more than 6 classes you automatically fail (not the professor's rules but that's UMD rules). The professor also goes above and beyond to make sure you know what you are doing and he makes sure you are very well prepared for showing the skills for the exams. You don't do the moves in front of everyone which is nice because not everyone has to watch you. He comes around to each partner to make sure you know what you are doing and to grade you. |
