The class in theory was fine, but I felt personally like I learned nothing in this class. I as the student taught the class more than she did. The majority of this class is giving presentations almost every week, which was doable but annoying. I'd say take the class if you don't mind giving a presentation every week.

The class was more of a history class than a cultural class. I think the two are obviously related but there was more discussion of history than culture at many points during the class. Additionally, this professor graded less on the content of our presentations and more on how we presented. She never gave specific feedback to individual students; she just gave general feedback to the class. However, this feedback was all about how we presented, not what we presented. It didn't seem like it was graded based on our knowledge or presentation content about black history and culture, but more about how we presented it. This class was not a COMM class, but she treated it like one. The only exception was the writing assignments and online exams we had, which were more graded off of accuracy it seemed. However, she still didn't give reasons for taking points off on these assignments. I would not recommend taking a class with her.

The content of the class is interesting but she doesn’t teach much. It’s all outside readings that 3/4 you must source yourself. I feel like they should look into her sections being a COMM credit because you have to give 5 total presentations (4 in a group and 1 solo final project). Overall fine class though very doable.

Nice Professor. Pretty much all of the class is reading outside of class, with group presentations on the readings in class and short discussions after those. The only assignments besides those are a couple of discussion posts, the midterm, and the final project.
