Claire Dunning PLCY213 Expecting an A- Anonymous 12/09/2024	She is maybe the best professor I have had so far at UMD. She is very kind and will help you if you ask. Also, she keeps lectures relatively engaging and you do need to go and participate if you want a good grade. I think participating was somewhat easy because she makes her classroom a very welcoming space. Doing the reading will help you participate but most of the time you can pick up on what is being talked about anyway and speak up. Being in class will really help when writing papers because while she posts her slides, a lot of the actual details are written on the board which she does not post. There are 4 papers, weekly quizzes (just a written response to a question), and a participation grade. She grades somewhat harshly but I think you start to figure it out as the semester goes on. If you are a PLCY major I strongly recommend taking 213 with Dunning.

One of my favorite classes I have taken at the school of public policy. I've learned so much from her. There are four papers and weekly reading quizzes (super easy). Her grading isn't very lenient but it is fair.

There are four papers in total, but nothing too hard as long as you get started early. Would definitely recommend her, she's really nice and this is a good intro class for the public policy school

She goes out of her way to help if you fall behind or are struggling, provides good feedback on papers, and makes the class insightful. Participation is a grade, but she offers to help if you aren't good with speaking up. She's really sweet and positive and a great person as well as professor!
