THET285 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 01/06/2026 |
Eran runs THET 285 as a true seminar, and it’s one of the few classes where I consistently felt included and encouraged to participate. Discussions feel collaborative instead of intimidating, and he genuinely listens to students and builds on what we say, which makes the class feel welcoming and engaging. This course completely changed how I think about theatre, communication, and performance, and because of my experience with Eran, I ended up adding a major. THET 285 didn’t just help me improve my presentation skills; it made me feel like my ideas mattered. |

Instructor. Eads is literally the BEST. I took THET 110 for an "easy A" and ended up adding a Theatre major because of him! 😂 His passion is so infectious and he totally changed how I see performance. While other sections just wrote papers, we were constantly making, watching, and dissecting theatre and performance. So engaging! Even my friends who rolled their eyes at theatre loved his class. 10/10, a life-changing professor! Where is #TeamAntiTheatricalPrejudice (👀) ? |

The instructor rarely offers guidance, often provoking discussions in a way that seems designed to elicit strong reactions from students. As a result, it can be frustrating to understand how your performance is evaluated, as feedback on grades is rarely provided. While they may not be the most difficult "facilitator" to deal with at the UMD, be prepared for a daily dose of their sassy commentary, if you don’t mind a bit of attitude in the morning. |

Instructor Eads made THET 110 one of the most engaging classes I’ve taken. The course goes beyond basic theatre history and really focuses on performance as something we experience every day: socially, politically, and culturally. This made the material feel relevant and interesting. Class discussions were thoughtful and student-centered, and assignments encouraged creativity and critical thinking. There was no busywork. Instructor Eads clearly is passionate about performance studies and does a great job connecting theory to real examples, helping students understand why theatre and performance matter. If you’re willing to participate and think critically, you’ll get a lot out of this class. |

Expectations are clear and he provides extensive feedback. I hate public speaking but none of the major assignments were too awful. For one assignment we had to make our own rubric and might it sound great but it was the worst! I’m usually not this person but I know everyone’s name in that class. |

Class is discussion-based and attendance is essential. He provides really detailed feedback on the projects. He says it's not an easy A but it is if you engage in class. You'll do an interview and that is the most useful part of the class. |

Best class I have ever taken. It felt surreal, most of the class conversations were good, especially when we would get distracted. The activities and assignments were mostly engaging. I did not even realize how much I learned from them because it honestly felt silly sometimes. He makes communication and presentation feel doable. I was afraid to take the class initially but it helped me. The interview assignment is the most useful thing I have done in my years of college. |

He is not chill. I will say he genuinely cares about the class, and I didn't realize how much I was learning from it until another professor told me how much I had improved on a presentation. I learned that gestures communicate truth more than your words. The most helpful thing he said to me was from one of our readings about affect: my hand motions appeared zany. We practiced other alternatives that were interesting or cute and I could tell he wanted me to use the interesting gestures but I ended up using cute. |

Takes class discussions very seriously. Classes involve sitting in a circle and speaking without raising hands. This was my favorite nonmajor class. |

Eran is a fantastic teacher who cares about students' success. He puts a lot of time and effort into the course and is always available to provide extra support. Also, he is really funny in an awkward way. I had him for a different course but it was great. |
